Guy makes the executive decision that things are going to get stormy, so he takes his starters and he walks off the court.

I'm trying to imagine what the 5 guys on the court are thinking for the last 14 seconds when they see their leader and teammates walk off the court.

Not trying to be too dramatic here, but, if the concern was for player safety, as Roy says, then how can one conclude anything other than Roy didn't care about the player safety for the guys on the court, who would now be 5 rather than 15 or so?

Never had an opinion of Roy before this, but my opinion is now that this guy is a coward and a poor leader.

Not to be too dramatic, again, but nobody gets left behind. Ever. Not in war, and not in team sports.

Didn't look like Hamilton was that much in agreement as Roy claims. Safety means the teams exit immediately when the buzzer sounds (not shaking hands), not giving up with 14 secs. Those players are not small weaklings and can easily elbow their way through a crowd rush. These are college kids not soldiers rushing the court.

As for the 5 scrubs that's sad to be left by yourself in a hostile environment in the midst of thousands of opposing fans. The team certainly didn't have their back.

At the very least, stick around to make sure that the 5 walk-ons are standing in the corner of the court closest to the locker room entrance.

I'm sorry -- how can a coach not be disciplined for leaving the game, with most of his team, before it's over? Oh yes -- the same way that he can remove a fan from his seat for doing nothing more than cheering and not be disciplined. Because the basketball coach at UNC is beyond rules and laws.

Wow, I couldn't even imagine a coach doing something that sleazy, and can't believe the team would leave players on the floor. No class, no guts. Won't hurt in recruiting though.

Wow what a BS excuse by Roy Williams, is this the best excuse the brightest minds at UNC could think of?

http://abclocal.go.com/wtvd/story?section=news/sports&id=8507904

"UNC head basketball coach Roy Williams says he never had any intention of leaving five reserves alone on the court in Tallahassee Saturday and, according to UNC, Williams didn't even know the final 14 seconds of the game had been played out until reviewing film of the game that night... Williams was under the impression that the final 14 seconds of the game had been called for safety's sake."

I wonder if he'd notice if the walk-ons don't show up for practices.

He must have read about the leaving early thing from the same book that the BET refs read.

Norman Dale, as played by Roy Williams:

"My team is on the floor. I'm getting the heck out of here."

Yeah, what a quitter. JC didn't ask to leave the floor early when UNC fans were about to storm the court after beating UConn.

Also no one on the team went back to check on them, they walked right by them ignoring the walkons. Lost opportunity for the captains to step up.

True definition of sacrificial lambs.

That is f--ing genius.

For those not in the know, that appears to be a sign for the lost colony of Roanoke, which was established before Jamestown, but that was abandoned when re-supply ships were 1 year late because they were occupied with the Spanish Armada.

Just genius. Probably done by a Dookie.

I don't know that abandoned is the right word. When the boats returned, the colonists were gone without a trace. Possible they left the fort and assimilated with the native americans. Also possible they were killed.

That's embarrassing to UNC.

Did Sylvia Hatchell leave early last night while getting smoked by Auriemma's crew? No!!

Never liked Roy Williams.
