I am bad at copying tweets, so I will just cut and paste. From Rothstein on twitter talking about leagues going to 20 conference games, and the importance of being in a "Top 7 League."

20-game conference slates already taking a toll on scheduling for future seasons. WARNING: If you are not in a Top-Seven league (Power-5, Big East, or American), you are an ENDANGERED SPECIES.

The Mountain West doesn't get more than one team in the NCAA Tournament last March if Nevada wins the league tournament in Las Vegas. Was a one bid league for a few years prior.

Concerned about the A 10. League would have had only two of 14 teams in last season if Davidson didn't win things in D.C. And one of those teams (St. Bonaventure) was in the First Four.

The American nearly had two teams in the Sweet 16 last March and has two storied programs on the rise in Memphis and UConn. Long term prognosis for the league is very good.

A-10 has more NCAA bids than AAC since its inception, hard to argue it isn’t in the same category based on court results.

Great for perception of the AAC. Now we can stop hearing cries hoping for the Catholic Big East.

It is just called the Big East and not all the schools are Catholic as Butler is not.

Just because Butler is not Catholic does not mean that the C7 didn't put together a Catholic conference. What do you think the C in 7 is??

C 7 is indeed a nickname for the first 7 schools. The correct point is that the conference name is Big East and of that there is no debate.

Hurley is going to get it done at UConn but the jury is still out on the American. Over the last three recruiting classes 2016-18, the American only has 3 top-50 recruiting classes. UConn @ 8 in 2016, Memphis @ 50 in 2017, and Memphis @ 30 in 2018. Over those same 3 years, the Big East has 18 top 50 recruiting classes.

That's 60% (18/30) of the BE recruiting classes vs 9% (3/33) of the AAC recruiting classes.

Nine of the ten are Catholic.

In a more proper alignment, the 10th Big East school would be Notre Dame (a football Independent and representing Indiana), and UConn would be in ACC. This is the angle that doesn't make Louisville the CR bad guy, especially because they were chosen for football

I'm forwarding this to Pope Francis so he can administer the proper penance.

A lot depends on quality of coaches and the Big East's top coaches are getting poached, e.g. Mack, while the AAC has upgraded a bit particularly with Hurley and Penny. We shall see but if the AAC keeps investing in basketball they'll move toward the Big East. I think the conference knows that if they want to be "P6" in football they have to be "P7" in basketball.

You're right. But as a counter, Xavier has the 5th best class & 1st in the BE in the early going of 2019.
