Hurley knew he had Stewart and Ross coming back as sophomores, and started freshman Liam McNeeley over them anyway. Hurley has them both back again (+Solo) and went and got Braylon anyway

Even back a few years, I’m sure part of the reason Akok transferred was because Hurley recruited freshman Karaban to take his minutes with sophomore Samson Johnson. Josh Carlton was a senior and lost most of his starting minutes to freshman Sanogo.

I don’t think Hurley has any issue starting freshmen over returners if they’re good enough. So the question should be: are Braylon and Furphy good enough? Braylon is a 5* so can’t blame anyone for assuming yes. Furphy is more of the wild card. Did have some really strong summer performances, but in a U19 global tournament
