What is Tyler doing in there?
Playing great defense, rebounding and actually boxing people out. Unlike the other guys who are in the center rotation.

As much as I wanted to see one of young centers emerge - Olander deserves to start

Olander still had his moments coming up short on weakside rotations, but yea, he needs to take all of Nolan's minutes. Very disappointed @ the way Nolan has come out this year considering how he looked against GT, Cincy, and Prov to close the year.

he also, by far, sets the best screens of any of our bigs. He set two crucial screens to free Bazz for critical shots down the stretch

Tyler doesn't protect the rim
And Nolan does? Lol at least Tyler had some girth and can hit a open shot, post up occasionally, set a pick and most importantly get a rebound. I mean I love ab for defense but the guy had no rebounds? How is that possible for a seven footer?

Tyler doesn't protect the rim
True, and that's why he's not a guaranteed starter.

But his rotations were fantastic, he played good (strong) post defense, and he rebounded better than the other bigs.

If he's still healing then I think we have something good to look forward to. He's played in and won a national championship game, but I don't care who starts but who finishes.

Nolan played 6 mins, had 4 fouls
AB played 9 mins, had 4 fouls.
TO played 24 mins, 2 fouls.
Tyler played because Nolan and AB are very foul prone. Nolan really had a tough night on defense.

Right now this is who we are. Bigs who have trouble staying on the floor because of fouls. Hopefully they will get better as the season goes on.

Olander has been our most effective big man in short minutes this year. Anyone who thinks otherwise just because they don't like the kid is kidding themselves.

What's wrong with Tyler playing? He's a mildly skilled, sturdily built, senior post. Last time I checked, we're pretty friggin thin in the post.

The fact that TO is our most effective big man says more about Nolan than it does about TO.

We all knew Brimah would be raw, that we'd have to live through the growing pains as he figures out proper defensive positioning, rotations, and rebounding technique, not to mention everything about the offensive side of the ball.

Nolan, frankly, has been a disappointment. He looks exactly like you would expect from a kid who we picked up late because we had no other options. His instincts are poor, he's not a good athlete, and he comports himself tentatively, as if he knows he has no business on a high-major basketball court. I was hoping for something like early-career Hilton Armstrong out of him, and he hasn't even given us that.

Olander, despite his glaring physical limitations (quickness, strength, jumping ability), has a good set of instincts, knows how to screen well, generally is in the right position, even if he doesn't end up with the block or rebound, and can actually give us something in the half-court on offense with the ball in his hands.

At this point I'd split the minutes primarily between TO and Brimah, with an eye towards grooming Brimah to be our starting C next year. Nolan will strictly be a 4-year backup. I haven't even mentioned Facey, whose role is particularly murky (not helped by the fact that he hasn't gotten any minutes); he has the physique of a 3/4, but only has the skills of a 5. I'm not sure where he plays in the Ollie system.
