As we wind down another outstanding and championship caliber season of UConn WBB, perhaps we at the Boneyard should create and award a “National Women’s College Basketball Most Valuable Trainer Award” to Rosemary Ragle.

Here’s why: For a substantial part of 2014, Morgan Tuck and Gabby Williams, two of our extremely valuable contributors, were rehabbing SERIOUS knee injuries. Just look at them now, and the way they continue juke, jive, and jump around, under, and over the competition to score, rebound, and box-out. And, they do it fearlessly and beautifully.

Having experienced four major knee surgeries after numerous knee injuries let me assure anyone who has not experienced a “knee,” it is an extremely painful and mentally debilitating ordeal. It is an event and a pain that is permanently etched into the mind of its owner. For the athlete, this mind thing is a weight they must carry and endure during every future performance. They are always cautious, always compensating, always fearful of a recurrence. If the slightest nuance of instability is perceived during a workout, practice, or game, the remainder of the performance happens in a lower gear, if at all.

I fully expected that Rosemary and staff would do a great job during last off-season and again throughout the regular season getting Morgan and Gabby ready to compete. However, at the beginning of the season I would have bet a dollar to a dime that at least one of them would not still be playing or contributing at this late date. Yet Morgan and Gabby have played and produced big time for the entire season with no visible signs of physical, emotional, or mental distress …absolutely remarkable …just like Rosemary Ragle.

Hats off to Rosemary for her unheralded contribution to the 2014-2015 championship season!

I thought the "head" trainer was the team/athletic dept doctor? This is the setup at some other schools as I understand it.

Oh OK -

She's still A #1 in my book! :)

Nice sentiments. I was really worried on the first play in the Maryland game, when Moriah's pass to Morgan on the fast break seemed to lead her a little too much and she had to lunge to catch up. Fortunately, the knee was not an issue.

A we're in the awards time of year, your award is spot on!
I'm sure the team and the coaches appreciate Rosemary's contributions but she (and, I suppose - the strength coach) really deserve the recognition.

Yes, Rosemary and Amanda Kimball do an incredible job keeping the team healthy and fit. They are a great team themselves!
