This team has been a bit enigmatic, but one thing that has been surprising is that I genuinely feel like we are a better team on the road. Some of our best performances, especially when you talk about coming out ready to play, have been at Marquette, at Georgetown, at Butler, at DePaul and at Texas (plus Gonzaga at MSG).
We are not 100 percent - we got down 10 early at Xavier (21-11) and at Villanova we never really had much of a lead (4 was the most). But compared to the games when we’ve been asleep early at home (PC and DePaul in particular), it’s a big difference.
I would say that this character trait bodes really well for March - that we’ll travel somewhere for regionals and lock in from the tip. Maui is obviously an albatross, but the Memphis game was the first time we played a legit DI team, and then the next two games were with no recovery/game plan time.
Interested to see if this trend continues, or if maybe we can look like the team in blue when we’re at home.
