Rivals and On3 merged so here is their latest 2026 rankings that were released today.

A few notes:

There has been some talk that this is a weak class at the top end. There are only 2 recruits they deem to be 5 stars worthy, Tyran Stokes and Brandan McCoy. Dylan Mingo is #3 and he's a 4 star.

Arafan Diane is #9.

Bryson Howard moved up to #11.

Abdou Toure is #34.

They're not too high on Cole Cloer after watching him this summer. His ranking slid all the way to #52.

Some fairly significant reshuffling. Samuel took a precipitous drop as well. Some of it may mean little and simply lean into the overall view of the fact this class doesn’t have a lot of year one difference makers, and it’s really more of a developmental class.

Adolph Junior County #60.

I want Toure and Cloer. The only option at center seems to be Sayon Keita and that's battle between UConn and every other blueblood. Mingo is my favorite out of the point guards but not enamored with any of them in this class and we do better with portal point guards under Hurley.

Toure might be sitting behind Furphy. Cloer might be OK with developing behind Furphy and Ross and maybe Jaylin. Demary could be here for next year so a oad pg might be less valuable than a multi year player. We should try to get a high school pg and a transfer pg. We dont want to mess around with that position.

Looks like focus may be in transfer portal market with so few impact players available from this class.
Look for one or two HS kids who can step in and contribute right away.
Think the PG spot always has to come from the portal going forward. Unless you count Steph, the PGs we’ve recruited haven’t panned out at all in the last several years.

I have liked Mingo & Rippey but the Rippey ship has sailed. I think Mingo would be a great get but I can understand him being less of a priority with Demary here. On the other hand, Demary's impact here is assumed, as is his staying in place for a second year. If he has as big an impact as we expect, he will also have a high market value.

Some of the 5* rating on these lists is NBA projection. I do think Diane is 5* worthy with respect to college impact. I think he would be the best player to build our roster but it would be hard to see happening. (I said the same thing about Mullins, so you never know). We never got involved with Marcis Ponder #37 who has committed to Fl State. Kieta looks great and I noticed Diane's highlight real never included Kieta on the court when Diane played Kieta's team. (I think Kieta wore #137 in that event)

From my watching, Cloer projects a similar path to what Ross & Abraham have been. He can be an excellent role player. He can shoot, but if he is replacing Karaban in a line up with Reibe he needs to rebound, and he seems closer to Polley in that regard. He is always up in the mix but seldom comes down with the ball.

Toure or Samuels I would welcome as impact scorers and disruptors, but I have seen them both shine and also both lay eggs.

I've watched 2 games with Junior County and haven't seen a noteworthy play yet to even comment on. I have no idea what he can do nor if he was nursing an injury or something when I watched him. Offensively he didn't handle the ball at all, he didn't go for rebounds, he drifted behind the arc with no movement to get open. I checked and rechecked the player listing because I assumed I must be watching the wrong player.

It seems we have no interest in Reed's brother but I wish we did. You need at least 1 player at least 6'8 on a team with physical strength as an attribute.

Landrew is #16 on this list. 6'10 Costello who is better than Cloer is now #27 from Boston and shocking to not be after him to replace
Alex. 7'1 235lb Favour Ibe is another player that we aren't involved with that I wish we were #123 on the list will prove out higher than that. Another 6'8 'Adama' at Putnam Science I have not seen.

A certain someone got ran off for saying this.

I think the reason we’ve been more reliant on the portal is because of the transition period we typically have after our starter leaves. When Newton left, the staff clearly planned on Diarra to go off the bench and needed a starter right away. Assuming Demary stays next year, I think a backup frosh (if he’s willing to be so) would be fine as by his sophomore year, he will already have some familiarity with the system being behind Demary.

Mingo is my personal top choice, I just don’t know if he is willing to play off the bench year one. If so, I think he’d make a fine starter year 2. He’d also be more talented than Nowell or Floyd Jr.

I watched one game that Reeds brother was playing in against one of our other targets, and he played like a beast in that game. He carved out space whenever he wanted, wish he was 2 inches taller.

Tristan Reed's listing at #96 in the rankings is 6'9. No idea if that is accurate. I probably watched the same game because he was a beast when I saw him.

Not being d-baggy but didn’t we try that scenario with Nowell this past season? I don’t disagree but finding a frosh with talent who is willing to sit the pine watching for a year is not as easy as we think it is these days.

Having kids come in without a clear path to as much playing time as they hope for has always been a challenge but it is going to depend on the kids whether there is a starting point guard or 2 centers already on the roster. We will have 3 point guards on our team this year that were major D1 contributors last year. Guys committed for their senior year to likely be back ups after starting. Illinois got 3 guys in the portal 6'9 to 7'3 to play in the front court after double digit minutes at their previous schools including many starts. Duke has historically had McDonalds All Americans coming off the bench. We are also filled this year with players that can play the 2 or the 3. I agree getting good players as depth pieces can't be easy, but it is possible.

It seems to me that the focus on this class has become less about high-impact freshman (as "promised") and is more in-line with the traditional building blocks for the future. Cloer and County (even Toure) are closer to Stewart and Ball than Castle, McNeeley, and Mullins.

There is going to be a ton of turnover if the coming season is successful and it will be good to replenish the program with the "culture guys" that help maintain continuity.

Not to knock Ross and Abraham too much in a thread that isn't really about them but if that's what Cloer projects do we really want to sign him? Ross has a few years under his belt now, hasn't shown much and may not play too frequently this year and Abraham isn't on the team. Wouldn't it be better to hit the portal to fill that spot?

That’s what my main issue would be, we saw that with Adams. Keep in mind though that Nowell was already recruited over by the time he was on campus. Mahaney was supposed to be the starting PG and Diarra as the backup, Nowell being the backup was more a result of AM backfiring than it being for starter development. It didn’t work out either.
