RIP Rodney Rogers

Dang. This stuff hits home when it's a guy like Rodney, I remember him in college and even have his #54 jersey from the Nuggets somewhere in my stash from childhood.

Big beastly lefty (always love the lefties) with a great all-around game. Far too young, man.

Liked him as a player. He was tough.

Still love the story of him being young and making the mistake of taunting Larry Bird. He found out the hard way not to poke the bear.

Never heard of the dirt bike accident and the condition he was in until today.

He was a great college player and one of my favorites as a kid. I always liked Wake back then. Dude was built like a Mack Truck and he could shoot it. Sadly he was paralyzed from the neck down since 2008 and now he's no longer with us. The man had it all. Great basketball player, great personality, jacked, and handsome as all heck. I like to remember him like this...

I remember him like it was yesterday. RIP

I don't know if Scott Burrell had some relationship with him but didn't Burrell jump over Rogers in a game to steal the ball? It was a really athletic play.
I was there and it happened about 30 feet from me. Most athletic play I have seen in 50 years of watching college hoops and I have seen alot.

RIP Rodney. I have not read the article in the first post. I remember reading on ESPN.com when his dirt bike accident occurred that left him paralyzed from neck down if I recall correctly. But when I read the title of this thread stating he passed away, I have to think it had to do with complications coming from his paralysis as early deaths usually happen with people that are paralyzed.

What was so awful about his dirt bike accident besides the paralysis he suffered was the fact it took him away what he loved to do. He was described as a straight up outdoor man. He worked at some factory if I recall during the time of his accident and his coworkers had no idea he was a former NBA player-Rodney never talked about it.

We did his campaign for Player of the Year - he was an incredible player at Wake. Sad to hear this news.
He was paralyzed from the shoulders down from rolling his atv in a ditch about 17-18 years ago. He had complications. He was a big outdoors guy so it was a freak accident as he was all about motor sports and all that NC guys dig. He actually worked for the city of Durham despite having some financial stability. Drove the big equipment, which always loved.

Danny Fortson has entered the chat.

Not to be "that guy" but Danny Fortson fits the profile for the size but he wasn't exactly an athletic freak like a Rodney or LJ. He was a bit hefty and threw his weight around but played more under the rim than those examples.

But again, I don't want to be a jerk, your point is correct that those beastly 4 men were a 90s thing and I loved it. Big Nasty was awesome as well.

Edit: I know he's a touchy subject for us '94 Huskies fans, but I put Demetri Hill from FL in that category, "Da Meat Hook" big burly hefty 4 man.

Here’s the play.

I'm sure today they'd call that a foul. I mean, it looks like he hit Rodgers in the head with his knee. If it were Lebron he'd be writhing crying on the floor in agony. It was great how not one player complained though, they played on.

The video clip I included. Watch it at 2:20. Rogers steals the ball, dribbles the length of the floor, and without any hesitation, does a two-handed reverse dunk with George Lynch on his hip.
Lynch was a helluva player and Rogers made his move like Lynch didn't exist.
