I'm in the camp that he deserved to be in the HOF and think it's a damned shame he never got in while he was here. The rumor was always that he was kept out as an honor to Bart Giamatti's legacy and decision.

RIP Charlie Hustle. Tough as nails and a great player. He made some bad choices and was repaid over the top by Baseball with their refusal to admit him into the HOF.....which his on the field accomplishments deserved. Pete will be remembered as a great hitter. RIP Pete. RIP.

Met him ~25 years ago in Philly at Sports convention - signed everything, was polite, and seemed a class guy.

It was a lifetime ban. Fair or unfair, it should be over and he should be on the next ballot.
Great player, not a great person. But he belongs in the Hall.
