I know it's a Bball site but for any 60's and 70's rockers out there will know who Paul was - a founding member of the Jefferson Airplane and the only one to play on every Airplane and Starship album.
I'm sure August West will know about this
He was a great rhythm guitarist and balladeer.

Growing up my dad (who was born in '63) always said Jefferson Airplane was his favorite band (right up there with the Grateful Dead. We have a Jerry Garcia Christmas ornament that he puts in a prominent spot every year). Even though I never listened to them, the fact that he liked that group so much makes me deeply saddened to see a member pass.

I didn't really listen to them all that much, but have heard a little bit of their music. Agent Orange did a cover of "Someone to Love" which, good as they were, wasn't quite as good as the Jefferson Airplane version. Somehow it didn't really fit in with a surf punk band. I was acquainted with Brent Liles who was the bass player in Agent Orange for a few years in the late 80s/early 90s and before that played with Social Distortion. I bring him up as sadly he's another guy in the music community who we lost far too early. He was run over by an 18 wheeler back in 2007.

Yes, before they sold their counter-culture identity to 'The Man' for $$$$.

Their early stuff is great... "Volunteers" is a fantastic tune. But the guitar duo of Kantner and Jorma is super underrated. While I was not alive for that generation of music, it is my fave. It's going to really suck seeing all the legends of that era begin (continue) to pass on.

Jorma and Jack (Hot Tuna) were the band,
Paul held them together when Jorma and Jack were feuding and pissing on everyone
Jorma and Jack were/are great as Hot Tuna but Paul was the glue for the airplane
