Quite a career. Never saw a film where he just mailed it in.

Police still investigating as even though he was 95, he was found dead in his home along with his wife and dog.

"Hoosiers" is one of my favorite movies. He hated making it, was very difficult to work with and thought it was going to ruin his career. Check out the Trivia about the movie on the IMDB web site. Fascinating stuff.

Must be carbon monoxide.
Most likely (assuming no foul play).

Gene Hackman was a terrific actor. The only problem with some of his movies was that as a supporting actor he would be so much better than the more popular lead actor that I often found myself rooting for his character instead of the star. The best example of that was The Firm.

RIP

Great actor.

Awesome in Mississippi Burning along with Willem Dafoe.

Crimson Tide where he co-starred with a young Denzel Washington was another memorable movie.

Hopefully no foul play involved with the death of those involved.

Interested to find out what happened. You'd think their home would have CO2 detectors. If his wife was a similar age to him, I'd suspect a different scenario, but she was in her 60's and had a lot of living to do. Rest in peace to both. Gene was a legend.

Check out Night Moves from 1975 if you haven't. Hackman plays a former football player turned private eye hired to find a young runaway played by Melanie Griffith. Entertaining film and Hackman great as always.

Hackman retired from acting over 20 years ago when he probably had a few good roles left in him....he didn't want to be remembered as an old man on screen. Runaway Jury was his 2nd to last role in 2003 and he still looked & performed great. A true film icon...RIP.

Great point, he stole that movie as Avery Tolar. Truly one of the great actors.

Sad news. He had a full life, but his wife was still pretty young. RIP to one of the all time greats.

So many great films as lead and supporting. French Connection, The Conversation, Unforgiven, Poseiden Adventure, Mississippi Burning, Hoosiers, Crimson Tide, Bonnie & Clyde, Night Moves, it's a very long list.

So many memorable supporting roles like Young Frankenstein, A Bridge too Far, Get Shorty, Unforgiven (though pretty major). He never shied away from small parts.

You got me smiling about him and Peter Boyle in that scene from Young Frankenstein. All you need is Mel Brooks to write it.

Getting weird

Arakawa was found lying on her side on the floor in a bathroom, with a space heater near her body, according to the search warrant.

Her body showed signs of decomposition, the document said. There was mummification to her hands and feet, the document said.

On the counter near Arakawa was an opened prescription bottle, with pills scattered, according to the search warrant.

I now believe she killed him. Maybe pushed him down the stairs (he was extremely frail) and then took her own life. Why? Because there was no carbon monoxide issue, pills were scattered around her, and most telling was the front door was left open. Why? Probably so her dogs could get out.

Or maybe Gene died of natural causes and wife killed herself in grief...wtf knows

It also says it appeared Gene had suffered a fall.... to me the open front door is the key to the mystery.
