Very sad, as someone who was born in 1960 he (and the Beach Boys) were a major presence in my youth.

He was a truly remarkable song writer and an early pioneer of 1960's rock & roll. Sadly he also led a very troubled life.

He would have turned 83 in a little over a week.

May he rest in peace.
