UConn had so many chances after SU misses to stretch that big lead into double figures, stretch that two possession lead into 3, stretch that one possession lead, retake the lead, well you get the picture.
If someone really wants to blame any one or two players you need to re-watch the game, especially the 2nd half. Go through the list of miss shots and opportunities.
AD - Missed dunk, passed up shot right under the basket and passed it out to the perimeter for some unexplained reason, that I think led to a turnover and SU basket.
Boatright - Pick any one of his missed midrange or missed open 3s. Ryan makes some really nice shots, and he and Bazz are the best at creating shots. Most of his misses weren't bad shots. We'd be mad if he passed up on his open and lightly contested shots or if he played passively because he wasn't finishing. He and his teammates simply missed a lot of make-able shots. It's that plain and simple.
Olander - Missed a wide open J, passed up on wide open J and instead drove into traffic and turned it over.
Lamb - missed runner from the side and missed pick-and-pop 3, but he stood around nicely
Bazz - Blown 2-on-1, dribbling the ball out of bounds on the break and losing the ball on the baseline after running out of room. (I realize he took a lot of late forced shots, but I wonder how many of those shots were because of all the squanders by his teammates throughout the second half. To his credit he was trying to make plays, while his teammate Lamb managed to get a total of 9 fricken shots all game long.)
Roscoe - After having a tough first half, Scoe didn't seem to get many minutes in the 2nd half but when he was in there he missed a jumper. I don't remember if that was an open one or lightly contested or not.
Giffey - Like Bazz, dribbled it over the end line after running out of real estate. Giffey actually had a nice half when he was in there hitting a 3 and getting some rebounds and a steal.
Alex had a good second half but picked up foul #4 during UConn's surge. His spin move in the paint elicited a "where did that come from" from the announcers and just about everyone in the chat.
They lost by only 3 points. They make one or two more plays and they'd be playing tomorrow night.
Conversely the Cuse found a bench player, Southerland, who turned out to be the difference hitting 3 huge Js, 2 of them 3s. The first made it a one possession game. The 2nd three stretched their lead to 2 possessions. He accounted for 10 of their last 15 points. He turned out to be the only player on the floor consistently making plays down the stretch.
