You are pointing out a statistical anomaly with conference champions like this years PAC12 winner who were well down in the conference standings, similar to Kentucky last year who won the SECT. Considering there are 32 Conferences and that really only 4 (all but the Big 10 and the 1 title Stanford won in 2021) have dominated the past 20 years led by UConn and Tennessee, there really weren't many chances for the other P6 winners to garner any real momentum.
