Well, he is at Utah these days and he is now the starting RB as the previous starter was injured a few weeks ago. Went for 121 yards on 26 carries against UCLA 2 weeks ago and 187 yards on 34 carries against Colorado this past weekend. I guess he did have talent!

I'm not sure the talent was the issue. I think it had more to do with the credit card theft.

True, but he only had 6 yards on 3 carries at UConn.

Great comparison.

I'm sure he hasn't matured in a few different areas over the past 3 years...

Remember Cam Newton at Florida?

The stories around what happened with that kid off the field as a freshmen, if even partly true, are symbolic of how rotten the program had gotten internally from a culture of teamwork, honor, respect, character from top to bottom, inside and out - people quick to blame the coaches, but players aren't innocent either.

I'm happy for him to be doing well playing the game, and I'm much more happy and thankful that we've gotten leadership in place throughout the program that is back on track.

I remember seeing a clip of this kid running in the recruiting highlight package for signing day, where he was just lightning quick.

Wasn't Cam first supposed to go Rutgers?
I think you're thinking Jefferson. Decomitted from LSU, went to RU, and had a decent career at ru as a tight end after being recruited as a quarterback.

P. Buried him on the bench behind McCombs long before the credit card incident. P gave almost no one except McCombs any carries.

Since you were there...how was he in practice?

I know it's a demanding and physical game, but it's still sobering to hear a coach describe a 23 year old's body as "worn out." It sounded like an accumulation of injuries, not a serious knee/neck/hip injury.

On another topic raised almost a year ago, Cam Newton didn't play much at Florida because there was some guy named Tebow ahead of him. There wasn't a Heisman candidate in front of Williams at UConn.

Again, kudos to Joe Williams... Young man's becoming a man before our eyes... Not based solely on playing college football on scholly to please fair weather fans...
