Remember when they came from high school
And stayed for all four years?
They played for us - we rooted for them
Through tears and but mostly cheers

I miss the days when we got to see
A struggling freshman evolve
Into a player and then a star
A player we grew to love

Now, they wonder if they should come
If there is no guaranty
That they will be on a billboard
Promoting sneakers, Gatorade or tea

And if they feel dissatisfied
with the way things seem to go
They just jump into the Portal
To places even they don’t know

I wish them the all the best
They have a right to choose
But it saddens me to think that..
…In the end, we all lose

I think this is an unnecessary use of the past tense as it pertains to UConn (thus far). As Geno correctly pointed out, UConn has not lost any core players to NIL or the transfer portal ever. There were a few "pretty good" players (two in particular with the surname of Walker), but compared to almost any other school, UConn has done great in this regard.

If your concern is about the future, I suggest you wait until the scenario that you imagine actually pertains to a core UConn player (present or future). It may not happen for a long time yet.

My prose was not about UCONN or core players. It was a commentary on the direction of the sport. You, of course, can limit your interpretation of it in any way you choose. If it helps you in some way to limit it to such a narrow extent, I’m glad I could help.

I must say that I continue to marvel at the talented individuals who find themselves on the Boneyard. Who would have ever known that we are blessed to have a latter day Walt Whitman in our midst. Well done! :)

See what bad news in recruiting does to people lol
Kinda why following a smorgasbord of uncommitted hs kids or transfers is a time waster along with posting on the BY ;)
