On one hand you could say the rules were the rules back in 2005 and the original decision to strip Reggie Bush of his eligibility (along with his Heisman) and USC of their wins should stand. On the other hand you could say that since the benefits came from outside sources, not USC itself, it did not give them an unfair advantage and in light of the recent rule changes college athletes receiving compensation from outside sources is no longer considered taboo. Plus USC was penalized in the form of lost scholarships and bowl bans in addition to the lost wins and national championship and haven't been anything close to a championship caliber team ever since. So reinstating Bush (along with his Heisman and USC's wins) would not necessarily mean that they went unpunished.

The rules are the rules, and those who knowingly choose not follow them suffer the consequences. Seems harsh, but we seem to forget lessons learned (I.e., SMU, etc.). Namely, more money breeds more corruption and we will see much more of it in the future with the liberalization of rules.

Uh no. You don’t change outcomes based on the rules that exist now if events took place under different ones.

Uh yeah, just like when criminal reforms happen previously charged people are exonerated. Let's not forget this is a game played by adults.

He'll be reinstated by the time he has grandkids.

Reggie Bush should never have been penalized. USC sure should have.

Reggie Bush had a gift for a very violent game and cashed in while he could to help his family. Good for him.
