I'm trying to update UConn rosters for prior years.

I noticed the UConn site for 2011-12 is in error.

I think someone updated the years as part of creating the new years roster and accidentally included the values in the old roster. I will let the staff know, but that isn't my question.

I'd like to know if anyone knows for sure the convention on identifying redshirt years.

For example, note that both Doty and Buck are listed as RS SR. As mentioned I think that is an error, so was planning to change both to RS JR.

However, when I look at the prior year, 2010-11, Buck is listed as a RS SO, while Doty is listed as RS JR.

Something doesn't add up. I think it arises because Doty is in her RS year in 2010-11.

Buck's sequence:
2008-09 RS
2009-10 RS FR
2010-11 RS SO
2011-12 RS JR
2012-13 RS SR

Doty's sequence:
2008-09 FR
2009-10 SO
2010-11 RS
2011-12 RS JR
2012-13 RS SR

The question is, if you put a class in for Buck do you call her a RS FR in the first two years?
Do you call Doty a RS SO or RS JR in 2010-11

Phil, those sequences look correct to me. Generally, RS years are not designated by a class affiliation for athletics since they do not use a year of athletic eligibility. I have argued in the past that attaching standard academic nomenclature to athletics is wrong. The terms Freshman, Sophomore, Junior, Senior skew expectations and do not often match academically, especially, in this era where progress towards degree has become a parameter for program fitness. I suggest RS plus AE1, AE2, AE3, AE4 or AEF, AESo, AEJ, AESr.

This is right. Heather never played a game her first year. Her first year playing basketball was actually Kelly Faris' first year. So Buck's sequence is good. Doty played too many games her first season.... tore the acl.. then she player her second season, then torn the acl before the third. that was just a RS. Her fourth season she was a Jurior as was Buck.

Oh but you are correct... they should be listed as RS Juniors not Seniors.... Actually all of this information is incorrect.

Banks, Stokes, and Mosqueda Lewis were freshman
Engeln, Johnson, Dolson, and Hartly were sophomores
Faris was a junior
Buck and Doty were RS Juniors
and Hayes was the sole Senior.

Yes, as mentioned they got almost all wrong except Johnson and Hayes. That I have fixed.

I'm still trying to decide what to call Doty in 2010-11

RS SO or RS JR?

I think technically you would have to label it a RS JR, as she had played in her first two seasons at UCONN and then ended up redshirting. So she would be entering her Junior year had she been able to play. So the RS JR would seem to work the best

I think it is just Junior (RS); A red shirt junior means that the person is a senior but in their junior year of eligibility. A red shirt senior is in their 5th year.

Knightbridge... That is exactly what we are saying. If you are talking about Caroline's third year it should just say RS... no year connected to it. Like in 2000 Keirsten Walters (Spelling) would have just been RS, not RS So.
