I am sorry if this has already been commented on, or explained. I have been away. But is it safe to assume that there will be no recruiting news until after the Olympics? And could the Olympics help Geno in his recruiting?

He needs help??????

Honestly, sure, to the extent that "Head Coach Olympics with a bunch of former players on the team" is better than "Not Olympic Coach with no former program players on the Olympic Team". But I actually honestly don't think - in Geno's case - that it is a big deal. He has plenty of cred in the recruiting jungle already.

And I doubt there will be any news for the next few weeks, although of course a player can verbal anytime they want.

From a respect/pedigree/resume point of view, it sure won't hurt any.

From a time/energy/etc point of view, it could I suppose.

Personally I think the positives outweigh the negatives from a UCONN point of view. From Geno's personal point of view the positives far outweigh the negatives.

Shea, Marissa and Chris can still do the heavy lifting in his absence.

From a few USA Basketball reports I saw, it appears Chris is spending time in USA camp and helping with the team. Great part is UConn is in good shape with the core of the program pretty set through at least 2014.

More young players will see Geno and his six UConn grads in these games than the total for the rest of the year. The Olympics are the marquee sporting event of women's baketball. Young girls will identify UConn basketball with success at the highest level. Much like they dreamed of playing for Pat 20 years ago they now will dream of wearing American Flag Blue and playing for Geno. Kids go with winners in all sports. The benefit will come over the next 5 years as these girls move up to college age.

What is the point of this? My comment was in regard to the fact that he is being exposed for all the potential players to see not only a top notch coach, hopefully winning a gold medal, but doing it with six former players. I am just curious of it might sway young ladies. Not implying any wrong doings here. I still question the ethics of NC with their class out of nowhere.... but that is neither here nor there.

No offense was intended. Just an shocked that anyone would raise this question because.. 1) without any doubt that the Olympic exposure will benefit UCONN's recruiting and 2) its not like UCONN needs help in that area to start with..

It has definitely helped Duke's recruiting having Coach K as the Olympic coach... and people will argue that Duke didnt need any help in the recruiting area.. much like with your women.

perhaps I should have used this gif :p
