JC retired and as soon as KO earned his contract, our recruiting has intensified far greater than it ever has. I feel like this is KOs time to really shine and blossom, because of all the hard work him and his staff are putting in on the recruiting trail. Does KO not feel the same weight that JC felt after multiple NCAA investigations? Maybe yes, maybe no. I know the practice facility is a good selling point, but it seems like KO has more pulling power with potential huskies.

We recruited some pretty good players in the Jim Calhoun era too. We struck out on a lot of highly rated guys in recent years, but we still went after them extremely hard.

I think that Ollie and his staff are working extremely hard. But I don't think they are necessarily working any harder than Calhoun and his staff did. Not to mention we probably need to sign 4-5 more guys in the class of 2014, so it makes sense that we'd be involved with a whole bunch of players.

yea the approach right now isn't all that different than what we saw with the recruiting class just recently in 2009-2010. JC and the staff went after Knight, D. Lamb Selby, Joseph, and Leslie, but missed on all of them. Those guys were just as highly regarded and more so than what the staff is after now. KO and the current staff has less obstacles tho compared to back then when we still had the NCAA investigation pending and the constant rumors of JC's retirement, the conference affiliation stuff isn't that big of a deterrent no matter how many times some of you guys mention Tulane.

Let's be serious, in recruiting there is no try. Only do or do not.

It's fun being mentioned in what seems to be at least 20 kids we are recruiting for 2014. It's nice to see kids listing us in their top 5. It appears that the sanctions of the past few years seem to have done little to stop the interest of kids in UCONN. However, even tho we landed Purvis and that's great, it remains to be seen what kind of class we end up with in 2014. A lot of interest for sure tho...

13. 2003 Connecticut Huskies
sp_ncaa2864_display_image.jpg

Twin Towers Charlie Villanueva and Josh Boone
The 2003 Connecticut recruiting class of Charlie Villanueva, Josh Boone and Marcus Williams brought the Huskies another national championship, this one coming in 2004. Each of the elite talents made national headlines with their play in their careers, and each was drafted to the NBA.
When it comes to quality recruiting classes, not many can top this bunch. They are all still playing for money.

Don't forget about the 1991 recruiting class that set the bar that included Kevin Ollie.

All the players you mentioned were recruited by probably 40 schools. For the most part under JC, we didn't get that top 10 recruit even though we landed some outstanding top 100 players.

Assistants do most of the hard work with recruiting. I think JC had some weak links on his coaching staff.

Honestly, I have no idea what that has to do with the OP's point that recruiting has "intensified far greater than it ever has." With all due respect to him/her, that idea is absurd. At this point in time UConn is being "mentioned" by some top flight recruits. That's it. You know what that's worth: ____________.

Let's actually sign some high end guys before we start saying recruiting is better under Ollie than Calhoun. Calhoun brought in some monster classes and went head to head with the blue bloods to get them. I don't know why people forget that.

It amazes me how many "fans" seem to be unwilling to acknowledge that Ollie deserves complete credit for this years recruiting class of Facey, Samuel, Brimah, and Purvis. That is an excellent class for our first year coach, and he had to do that in the middle of the conference realignment mess and contract sillyness.

and this class is on par with what we typically got from JC. One McDonald's All American, another guy who should have been one, and two guys with huge upsides.

It similarly amazes me how many "fans" seem unable to remember anything that happened pre-Nate Miles.

I'm onboard the Ollie bandwagon, but what you're saying is an insult to the guy who built this thing, not to mention just wrong.

Incidentally, who is the guy that "should have been" a McDonald's All-American? Facey? C'mon. Nice player, lots of upside, but stop yourself.

Facey, Samuel, Brimah, and Purvis so far.

Duh! You know his class. Facey and Samuel committed to CC he kept them. So he failed to get Pur is the first time and gets him as a transfer? +-? What was implied is that he will be judge as a head coach as to how he can recruit starting class of '14.

Did anyone else understand this?

Ollie essentially took over right after the 2011-2012 season, so those guys are his guys basically.
