Some coaches have rapidly moved to building teams with a combination of high school recruits and portal transfers. Recruit class rankings may not be as valid as they used to be.
I remember a former coach saying that he was not interested in anybody who would transfer, it was all about developing your recruits out of high school. That paradigm is shifting.
One team that I have been watching has had transfers playing right next to players recruited out of high school...and for '23, has 16 high school recruits paired with 6 new players incoming from the portal. A pretty good catch, I think, that will not be ranked among the best class rankings.
And some really good players end up being the #2 or #3 at their position on a particular team and will transfer. I will be watching Zakhari Williams to see how this transfer-in DB works out.
