It was only a matter of time before Paige Bueckers etched her name in the UConn record books. And she didn’t even need to get through the regular season to do it. The freshman phenom set a pair of program assist records as the No. 1 UConn women’s basketball team took down Butler 97-68 in a Big East Conference game on the road Saturday in the penultimate regular-season game. Bueckers now has the most assists in a season for a UConn freshman (130 and counting) and most assists in a single game, regardless of year (14).

Sue Bird had 231 in 39 games (5.9 pg), which Paige won’t reach due to fewer games (unless she averages 10 through the national championship). Nobody has ever averaged 6 per game in a season (Paige is now 6.5).

Paige could have 15 assists every game except, early in the season, her teammates just were not ready for her passes, she caught them by surprise. Then, in mid season, they missed a lot of easy shots that would have been Paige assists. This game, it all came together!
