It looks like this deal means more for the XL Center, than it does for Rentschler Field.

At the same time, Global Spectrum has more resources than the Bushnell, meaning upgrade of both facilities is a distinct possibility.

Hell- if they can run the stadium @ University of Phoenix/Glendale, sure they can handle the Rent.

"The USF Sun Dome, a Global Spectrum managed facility located on the campus of the University of South Florida, recently received a distinguished honor in the first year of operation following a $35.6 million renovation. Based upon total gross sales, total attendance and number of shows in 2012, the USF Sun Dome was ranked 5th in the nation in “2012 University Top Stops” venues with a capacity of 10,001-15,000 according to Venues Today Magazine."

The XL is in sore need of a major renovation. Let's hope that this group doesn't deliver on its false promises like the previous management groups have done.

Comcast won the bid because they were willing to invest the most into improvements, etc., as far as I can tell.

"Global and AEG were very, very, very close," Freimuth said. "It's a tough call. What made it happen was the capital investment structure. Global's was deeper for us."

Actual capital improvements don't seem that dramatic to me.
Global Spectrum offered $2.75 million in capital improvements starting out and said it could set aside $1 million a year in a capital reserve account for improvements. With the nearly $2 million it would get each year, the CRDA would put it back into the XL Center and would lead the way to $20 million in improvement bonds. The AEG bid, by contrast, gave $1.1 million a year and would be good for $9 million in improvement bonds.
From the $2.75 million, Global will invest in concessions, special lower loge-level seats, a VIP lounge in the western hall of the exhibition space for food, etc.
...but I'll leave it to developers on the board to comment on how significant it is.

Also keep in mind that the Global bid is contingent on keeping the AHL in town, so there may yet be a second shoe.

I don't know how much longer they can keep slapping lipstick on this pig. Sooner or later it will need a big capital investment or it will no longer be a viable venue.

I don't disagree with you, but unfortunately, the money just isn't there. And the public certainly has no appetite for that level of spending with our deficits where they are. It may be the kind of thing we need to just wait it out and hope for long-term economic growth before any big project can be planned.

I think it will end up shutting down and eventually a new place will crop up assuming a better economy and a improved demand. UConn should be able to strike a pretty sweet deal with them in the meantime. Without us they'd have to close up the old gal.

Out of the three of those, opening the lots early is the one that makes the most sense.

Good, bad or otherwise, gas is safer than charcoal. As much as I love the Weber, it's not necessary for good tailgating.

And, having helped kill a few thousand kegs, anyone can have one helluva good time with bottles/cans.............provided you have more than four hours from gates opening until kickoff.

drinking games and throwing footballs shouldnt be questiond. the actual physical parking pass needs to change. i would also argue that a better configuration of the parking flow could be done to bes tthe atmosphere on gameday. its all about setting the tone in the parking lots and also impressing others every chance we get.

I just hate seeing a pile of hot coals dumped on the ground, still red, while I'm walking through the parking lot. Not worth the trouble.

Can be dealt with but I agree... people will be lazy or just plain inconsiderate.

The XL Center needs at least $16 million in improvements over the next decade just to sustain its operating systems. An investment of about $30 million is needed for upgrades, and a redevelopment would cost $100 million, according to estimates.

Wouldn't it be cheaper (and more productive) to build a new arena?? The NHL has a few teams who are hurting... (No, The Tampa Bay Lightning aren't hurting, but a few others are...)
