While the movie was centered around a boy w/ severe facial deformities going to public school for the first time starting 5th grade, and dealing w/ teasing and other kids being mean to him, it ended up covering a lot of other ground.  Both parents and his older sister,  and some of the kids' classmates all had their characters fleshed out and you got to see some of their journey in life and what they were dealing with.  It packed a lot into it's running time.  Owen Wilson and Julia Roberts were good as the parents.  The boy was played by Jacob Tremblay from "Room," not to be confused w/ "The Room."  His sister and her former best friend that she was suddenly on the outs with were both portrayed by actresses who are actually teenagers, such a novel concept.  The whole ridiculous Hollywood trope of casting 25 year olds to play high schoolers is so stupid!
