Sometimes the above things don't effect the outcome. Both coaches said prior to the game that the team that shoots and rebounds better will win. Well we got out-rebound by 10, they shot 55% to our 39%, had 19 assists to our 10, and blocked 7 of our shots- and still lost. We made 23 more foul shots (29-6), had 11 steals to their 4, and and, most importantly we took care of the ball (6 TO's vs. 18).
I just loved this effort today, because teams can not rely on shooting the lights out every night. Their resiliency, their ability to not put their heads down when shots don't fall, will do them well in the tournament. This was an important win not only because of the competition they played, but because they did the little things that you need to do to win.
What a great game.

Turnovers and Memphis decision to challenge our shots got us in the bonus early in both halfs and made a few of their players sit for stretches. As frustrating as it was that we did not contest a lot of their layups it kept us out of foul trouble from both a team and personal perspective.

Right on. It'd be easy for a Memphis fan to say "rabble rabble rabble they shot 30 more freethrows than us." But there 5 minute stretches where we straight up did not play defense.
