The Silver Anniversary Award annually recognizes distinguished individuals on the 25th anniversary of the conclusion of their college athletics careers. Representatives of NCAA member schools and conferences, along with a panel of former student-athletes, select each year's recipients.

Lobo earned unanimous 1995 Player of the Year accolades, including the Wade and Naismith trophies, the U.S. Basketball Writers Association and Associated Press Player of the Year awards, and the Honda Sports Award. She was named the 1995 AP Female Athlete of the Year, won the ESPY Award for Outstanding Female Athlete, earned Academic All-America of the Year honors and was then named the NCAA Woman of the Year.

Congratulations Rebecca!

I find an award locked to a time interval pretty weird but if it gives Rebecca more bling, lets go. Hopefully she will get the Golden Anniversary award 25 years from now.

There are moments in UConn lore that are priceless. This is one of them. It is also beyond valuable in measuring the Geno Legacy (yes, the end of her speech):

Lobo's speech is the best that I have ever heard. It very intelligently balances the the thank yous with anecdotes. Plus, she is genuinely a very witty, funny woman.

Has it actually been 25 years since she left UConn? It seems like yesterday.
