A True Story
Last evening (after having spent a week more or less in bed) with the flu), Matt (the prodigal son) suggested (rather insisted) that we dine as his 25th birthday celebration at one of New York's trendiest eateries...Blue Hill; many stars, NYTimes, even one from Michelin.
Because it was his birthday, even more, that one of his best buddies (Oliver Holt, whom he has know since they were both 7 or 8 as choirboys at St. T's), is the bartender, we were treated like royalty, 4 extra courses, free drinks, wine...an amazing experience...but that's not the story.
During dinner, our increasingly well-regarded son, received an enigmatic text message from his manager that read..."Matt...Paparazzi alert!"
As there seemed to be no olive-skinned Italian types flashing bulbs in our faces, he wrote back..."what gives?"
It turned out that his manager just happens to also mentor a budding pop superstar; Maggie Rogers and Ms Rogers, conveniently just happened to be sitting at the bar, with her mother, barely 15 feet away (almost impossible to get dinner-time reservations, even for a budding superstar).... had recognized Matt (they had never met) and texted the coincidence to her mentor.
After this was explained to Matt (2 or 3 more texts), he got up, slid over to the young woman and in today's parlance of greetings, gave her a big hug, which she avidly returned, following which they chatted each other up for a few minutes, and shared contact info.
A very 21st century way of hooking up. neh? Baffling to me.
Oh, for the uninitiated it's mattfx of comedy central and mtv...do look him up, Most grownups over 35, reputedly do not watch his shows...Broad City being his big hit.
