OI don't care where he plays. I'd just like to see him stretch those 3 pt records out a little farther. 3000 regular season threes should be a piece of cake, (he only needs 26) but he's arguably within striking range of 400 playoff threes over his career, as well. Going with 'bron increases the chance of a long playoff run and a shot to pick up the 24 or so he needs to hit 400. He already owns the record at 376, I think.

I expected this when LeBron signed with Cleveland. Just taking more time than I and others thought.

I see nothing wrong with Ray chasing more 'ships. What other reason does he really have to play? If he thinks his best chance is with the Cavs, then Cleveland it is.

Like I said in the OP. Maybe or maybe not. From Ray's facebook page today...

"A message from Ray and his representatives at Tandem Sports & Entertainment on his NBA future... Amid continued rumors and having spoken with Ray today, let me be very clear. Ray's position has not changed. Ray has not decided if he will play this season nor has he signed with the Cavs."

Where do they get all these "sources". I swear, with the coming of the 'twitter news cycle' there are more bogus reports from 'sources' in sports than I can ever remember.

Love of the game, extending his legacy hopefully beyond steph curry etc.

I believe every person who has taken part in a sport has been told at a time that a sport or game isn't purely about winning the highest championship level of the sport. If all players had the 'do all you can to win a title' each year, you'd rarely see cinderella stories in the college game, and there'd be more kentucky's than any other style of team. Pro leagues would be full of mediocre players with max deals and big market teams featuring 12 stars playing for 1/5 what theyre worth

and Rayray posted an instagram featuring a collage of him at UConn saying he has not made up his mind still. check it out if you can

That's all well and good, but when you are in your 20th year, and the body requires that much more maintenance. And your legacy is set in stone at this point. And you're taking precious time from your family...the only real reason to come back is one more run at a Championship. imo

Well I agree that it would be strange if he signed a year contract to play with Milwaukee or Minnesota, but I think going to a team that gives you a 'chance' at a ring is different than going to the unanimous favorite to win it each year, to me it comes off as lazy and wrong as a true competitor.

Said it before, but if an old veteran wants to do it to earn a first ring, then I'm fine with it. I'd be fine with a guy taking a 5$ contract to get a chance to win that elusive ring, but once you have won one or two... it loses that "I just want a ring" aspect and becomes lazy and cheap, sends a bad message to the youngsters who idolize you

I think that's important to Ray, but he's also very goal oriented, and I suspect that making his 3 point records farther out of reach of the rest of the world might be important to him.

As it stands now, Curry is the most likely candidate to catch his all-time regular season 3 point record. If Ray plays another year, he'll likely settle in around 3100 (roughly 125 3s away, and he's averaged 128 the past couple seasons.) Steph would have to make them at nearly the torrid pace of his last 2 seasons for another decade to catch him. Without missing any length of time to injury, etc. Is Stephen Curry's body going to hold out for 14 or 15 seasons in the NBA? Maybe. But odds are, his minutes would start declining before his 12th season, and his 3 pt output as well.

Too, another season will likely put him over 25,000 points for his career, which is an awfully attractive milestone as well. Heck, if he scores like he did his 1st season in Miami, he'd pass Reggie for career points, too.

I hope Ray plays another year the more Uconn spread across the NBA the better. I do think its inevitable he does play for Cleveland, he is doing the right thing by waiting out seeing how the Cavs assemble their roster. We'll see what happens.

Thanks for sharing. Anything else?

Clearly I've got nothing as enlightening as the constructive viewpoint of:

"Thanks for sharing. Anything else?"

It is all part of the long, slow, and oh-so-dramatic death of professional journalism. No need to check sources, confirm rumors or do your homework anymore... just guess, hint, extrapolate -- and publish. People give these folks credibility so they'll just continue to operate this way.

Happens to everyone. :D

Not to mention that people in general are much more PR savvy now. So false narratives are sometimes leaked as smokescreens.

Ray's "official" Facebook page says whatever it is he decides to do will appear there first. Is it wrong to hope he ends up at on KO's staff at some point?

The NBA isn't a league where outside chances win championships. It never has been. The champion team is always stacked, from the Celtics' and Lakers' various dynasties to Jordan's bulls to Duncan's spurs to LeBron and the heatles. The Mavs run is the only recent exception, and that was only because Dirk was in full on you mode in the finals.

If you want to win a ring in a league that requires winning 4 7-game series, you usually have only one or maybe 2 options for where to go.

"at some point" no, but not just yet. The season has started for the basketball team, I'm happy seeing Ray there in 1-10 years

I hear this all the time, but has Ray EVER indicated he's interested in coaching? Honest question.

Not directly that I've heard, but something about the way he followed the championship this year and the comments he made that made it obvious he's still deeply in love with the game and the program. A big contributing factor I'm sure for why its taken so long for him to decide what he's doing. I could easily see him commentating but he seems like he might be boring to non-UConn fans.

I'm confident that he will be involved with the program when he retires before he settles into his post-player career, maybe not as a full time employee.
