Hate to admit I'm a C's fan..........unlike my loyalties to Huskies men, football Giants, Yankees and Rangers I wonder how??

Now that I see the C's fan base is mostly the Sox fan base I may have to rethink my position here......booing a guy who brought so much to the city during his time is beyond ridiculous! And they dare to talk about the NY fan base.....laughable!! Embarrassing and hope Ray hammers them.......

I would tell you what I think of much of the population of Eastern Mass, but I would sound ignorant and it would appear that I'm generalizing, so I won't. But, I can't believe you are surprised.

They gave him a standing O and a video tribute at the first timeout, then boos when he first checked into the game. As a Celts fan also, I'm ok with it. That's what makes it fun.

Celts take it in double OT. Ray had 21 - including a 3 when Heat were on the ropes down 4 in regulation. Had an open one go halfway down and out in second OT when it was tied.

My five takeaways were that:

1) I have never seen Wade play so poorly. He was a trainwreck down the stretch and in overtime.

2) Structurally, Miami is a horrible offensive team. They get by on massive skill and talent, but their offense has no purpose to it. Let Popovich work with that bunch and good lord.

3) Shane Battier put up the worst game-winning shot attempt in NBA history. Missed by five feet.

4) Pierce gutted out a great game on a cold night. He is one of those guys who is always going to be dangerous.

5) Terry was a bad pickup - they got a guy in the middle of a rapid decline. They'd be better off giving his minutes to Barbosa.

He left the C's, signed as a free agent with Miami and the fans booed him. I don't see anything strange or embarrassing about that.

I thought it was a good tribute to Ray and they did boo him when he checked into the game thats fine. The Heat are in their usual mid season lull, but lets face it unless something crazy happens like Lebron getting hurt they will come out of the East. Lebron should be getting the ball in crunch time more then Wade. Ray looked very good.

You saw the good and bad for Ray at this stage of his career. The lethal shooting in crunch time that always get opposing fans nervous (the leprechauns knocked that last three out). But at the other end, if you can force a switch and get him isolated on a scorer, he's pretty much a cooked turkey. Pierce lost him with a spin move (Ray made up for it with the 3 in his grill). And Terry got to the rim on him in the second OT.

It wasn't awful D by Ray on Terry - they ran a flare screen, and up by 3, you don't want to give up the 3 in the corner to tie it. So he overplayed that corner three, and funneled Terry into the middle toward Bosh - but a younger Ray with better foot speed, he might have stayed on Terry's hip and put less pressure on Bosh to defend the rim. Either way, they were still up one, and Wade missed a floater that never had much of a chance.

His charge late actually should have been a block - Green jumped out of the restraining circle after Ray was already airborne. But you can't fault the refs at all for that one - in real time that's so hard to judge (and you can't expect that call on the road). Ray might have been better off pulling up from 7-10 feet in hindsight.

Have no problem with booing. He went to the enemy. When it was all shaking down, I wanted him to go to the Clippers, and he'd be more popular. But can't argue with their decision to take Crawford. And can't argue with Ray's decision - from the instant he arrived in the NBA and had to change hats on draft night, he learned it's a business.

The C's pushed him out and almost traded him to a shi**y team last year.........not at all his fault he left after being betrayed by management.........guess that's just the Boston way!

Listen fans can do what they want but he did nothing but make clutch shots for them and help them win a championship and get to a couple more.........I could see if he was originally a Celt but he wasn't, he left it's business.........but whatever!

The Celtics betrayed him by offering him more money than Miami did, huh? Stick to the college game, you're out of your element here with your little schoolgirl crush.

Do you really not have anything else better to do here than insult people? I can understand both sides of the argument, but we're not changing anybody's minds so why bother being rude with it?

I wouldn't call it betrayal, however, his name was constantly floated around in trade rumors, and if you think those rumors didn't have legs, then you might be out of your element too. He took less money to play for a better team and so he wouldn't have to hear about potentially being traded every 6 months.

I liked this post because I'm a C's, Giants, and Yankees fan as well. I wonder how many of us are out there. I guess it's what you get growing up on the Mason-Dixon line for Boston/NY sports.

It must be strange to hate a Sox fan, then party with them during a Celtics game. How do you root partly for NY & Boston?

Didn't have a problem with it. For those of you making the "it's a buisness, the Celtics floated Ray on the trade market, and they don't win a championship without him..." argument, I could very well say the same thing about Alex Oriakhi. He had countless big games for us on our championship run, wasn't treated maybe as well as he thought he should have been, and ultimately made a buisness decision by leaving for a school he felt would better showcase his talents. Can't have it both ways.

Things that make me chuckle from your post.

1) The only Boston team you root for just happens to be the one that has 17 championships. Shocking.

2) You're gonna rip on Boston fans for booing a guy who took less money to go to the enemy...

3) At least give credit to the C's fans. They'll boo Allen while wearing the enemy's jersey. NY fans showed up to the ALCS games and booed their OWN players so much they "spooked" them according to some anonymous NY players.

I have no problems with Oriakhi going - I frankly think very few of us do, especially with us ineligible for his senior year, giving him the chance to play right away somewhere else. Our beefs with him are more the mumu crap, the sulky attitude he showed as a captain and a leader, and the attitude from his family. Both while here, and on the way out.

I suppose in an abstract sense, a 20-year old college kid on scholarship and a 36-year old professional who is an unrestricted free agent have some parallels. But I prefer to compare pros to pros - a lawyer changing law firms for a better professional opportunity for himself, for example. I've changed jobs four times myself.

That's a very bad comparison. Ray did not act like a cancer. He continued to play hard, be a great teammate, leader, and true professional. AO did none of those in his last season.
AO was treated the same way by JC, as a great number of players. In the end, who will be a more successful b-ball player, AO or AD?

Great points, but as for this point in his career (he is 37 years old with major multiple ankle surgeries)......he's been excellent!

Imagine if Ray left to take more money?
Well that would actually make it a little more understandable...although you're always going to get booed when you jump to the main enemy (and yes right now the Heat is a bigger rival to the C's then LA.). Now if the Celtics made no attempt to keep him, then you can't really boo him. He doesn't owe it to you to stay away from Miami if you show no interest...but that wasn't the case.

Ask Johnny Damon what happens when you go play for the villain. This really shouldn't be a surprise. It's what sports fans do.

I was just pointing out that there were multiple factors, outside money, that he left, which is refreshing. I think feeling wanted was a big one, as well as have the opportunity to win another championship.
With RR out for the rest of the season, it will be interesting to see what the C's do going forward.

From what I remember he was almost traded to Memphis. You consider Memphis a shi**ty team?

Think back to the trade deadline last year. The C's were 6th or 7th in the Eastern conference at the time. Most people wouldn't have thought that the Celtics would actually have the lead in a game 7 vs the Heat to make it to the NBA Finals. And Ray wasn't the only aging C's player to have his name in trade discussions. Pierce was almost traded to NJ.

I'll always love Ray as a UConn fan first and foremost, but let's not act like he's some victim here. Use your head. When you go to the enemy - especially when you take less money to go to the enemy - then you're gonna get booed. Period. Take the pacifier out of your mouth and deal with it.

Ray did the right thing for himself. Maybe we as fans need to take the pacifier out of our mouths. But, of course, that's how it goes.
