One report said that he and Rondo had problems but who knows. The Celtics will competitive without Ray but there won't be any new banners flying in the Garden.
Interesting to see from the ESPN report that Ray and I have the same birthday...July 20. I will be accepting gifts both big and small so just PM me and I'll give you my address.

The rest of New England may worship at Boston's pro sports altar, but not Connecticut.

That's a bold statement. Try telling that to a few people in the top half of the state. CT is split, so I agree that the whole state of CT doesn't worship Boston pro sports.

Yeah, I think the thinking behind his decision was, "If I'm gonna take a lesser role, I better do it with a championship contender."
AS if the Celtics, who took Miami to game 7 of the Conference Finals AREN'T championship contenders.

For me i'm rooting for whichever former husky reaches the title game, before my favorite team. If the Heat make the finals go Heat, go Ray!

That just means you don't have an actual favorite team.

I love Ray, but I hate the fact he's joining those clowns in Miami. It sucks I won't be able to root for him in the final years of his career.

Ray needed to revive his cool factor for his post-NBA career.

I don't understand any of the disdain for this move.

He's a hired gun that fits perfectly into the Heats system. The Celtics had a nice run but the window is pretty much shut. I'd love to see him get a ring or two more before he hangs em up. Are THAT many people on this board Celtics fans??? Really?

It's pretty understandable why Boston fans disdain this move.

The Heat might be as disliked as the Yankees right now.

No, I'm saying, if you're NOT a Boston fan, do you really hate this move? Ray gets 1 or 2 huge chances at rings before he retires. I don't care who that's with, I'm in.

They signed Terry as a backup to Rondo. The Celtics still offered him 12 million dollars, which is twice what the Heat could offer.
The public image that the Celts wanted to display was that they wanted to keep Ray and were willing to pay more than anyone else to do so. I believe that this was solely for the fan base (to not turn on management, especially when it first appeared that he was going to sign with the Heat immediately upon becoming a free agent) and that they never really wanted him back.

Do you honestly believe that Terry's role is solely to be a backup PG? Are you sure that there weren't things within their contract offer (club option?) that did not become public that made the contract less than what it appears to the general public?

Granted there are still a good number of CT residents from east of the CT river and north of Hartford who believe that it is great to make believe they are part of Boston but fortunately the percentage of total residents who genuflect towards beantown has dropped dramatically from when I was an undergrad (a little more than 30 years ago) and we do have an identity of our own for the most part these days.

We do have an identity of our own for the most part these days.

Some will admit to being Knicks or Brooklyn fans down there? No one would do that during the Isaih Thomas era.

New Identity? There's CT and then that other county that houses AIG Financial and the hedge funds.

Agent David Falk: "I believe the most important thing isn't where you have the most endorsement opportunities, where the media is the flashiest," Falk said. "It's being in a place where you have a great fit"

Speaking on Jeff Green in the wake of Allen's departure.

I don't get this Terry's a backup PG. He's a SG in a PG's body. Ray's role was diminishing in Boston. Why not go to a better team? Ray will just camp out at the three point line and get look after look from deep. He even said after they lost to the Heat that there's a lot left in his legs. I think he felt snubbed by the Celts.

Not every player, or even every HOF player, gets to do this at the twilight of their career. I think it's awesome that Ray has this opportunity.

Also, I cracked up at Caron's reaction:
Caron's team is also loaded. Not a good expression of confidence.

I couldn't be more bummed about this whole thing. Like so many others, my favorite NBA player of all-time, one of my favorite UConn players of all times leaves the beloved C's and joins the despised Heat

Sorry Ray Ray, I'll be hoping you never win again. But I'll be happy for you if you do.

I'm genetically incapable of rooting for the Heat.

That describes Ray in Miami. It's a perfect fit.

I wonder what team Ray gets inducted into HOF with.

If he wins zero with heat, celtics. If he wins one or two with heat, celtics. If he wins three with heat... Up for debate

It sounds nuts, but he did love his time in Seattle. And the franchise doesn't exist, so it could be an easy way out if he had a tough choice between Boston and Miami. I doubt that'd actually really happen, but it'd be a nice gesture to the city if he did it. Pretty much a silly post from me to suggest it, but it is July.

Do BB players go in with a team? I thought that was a baseball thing.
