Exercise we’ve down in the past but haven’t seen the thread resurfaced since adding #6. Where does this put us all time from a program status standpoint? If I had to power rank programs historically, I’d probably go:

1. Kentucky
2. UNC
3. UCLA
4. UConn
5. Duke
6. Kansas
7. IU

Dropoff

Some order of nova, Louisville, Michigan state, etc.

The NCAA tournament had 8 teams through 1950 or so and 16 teams through 1974. Plus it was less prestigious than the NIT up until the 1960s.

So making the Final Four before 1975 just meant you won (at most) two games.

Eight of Ohio State’s 10 Final Fours are pre-1970. Four are from when the NCAA was basically a second-rate, 8-team scrimmage. Not remotely comparable to making a Final Four in the modern era.

I dont care. We are the top dogs right now a have been so since 1999.

If it’s all time ucla has to be first they have 11 freaking championships. But who cares about ancient history it was a different game

I was looking at this the other day. It didn't take long to realize UK is completely overrated in the grand scheme of things. No matter what their fans say, their championships in 48, 49, 51, and 58 are not the same as modern titles. For the amount of talent that have passed through those doors, they are actually a pathetic program. Their respectful, and level headed fanbase (/s) has to be barely hanging on for sanity, because they are much closer to the has beens at Indiana than us.

I've seen our team win 6 titles and I'm 32. You would be about a billion years old to have seen any other men's program win that many titles so who cares where the fans of lesser programs rank us.

UConn = Nouveau riche

We’re Al Czervik taking over Bushwood and the gray hairs can’t do anything about it.
Yep. We'll never be a member at Bushwood... but maybe we'll buy it and rebrand it with Husky logos.

The further back you go, the less meaningful it is. Winning in the modern era (post 85) means more. So:

Tier 1
UConn
UNC
Duke

Tier 2
Kansas
UK
Nova

Tier 3
UCLA
IU
MSU
UF
