Who are your favorite UConn players who played here for just 1 or 2 years?

My list is: (years)

Donovan Clingan (2)
Caron Butler (2)
Nadav Henefeld (1) - Broke my heart when he didn't return. If he was in the Portal era we would have been able to see more of him.
Tristen Newton (2*)
Cam Spencer (1*)
Stephen Castle (1)
Jordan Hawkins (2)
James Bouknight (2)
R.J. Cole (2) - Pre-Portal, not including redshirt year he had to sit out.
Tyrese Martin (2*)
Joey Calcaterra (1*)
Nahiem Alleyne (1*)

(Andre Drummond played just 1 year, but had little impact at UConn.)

* It's interesting how many 1 to 2 year portal players have had a moderate to big impact at UConn.

Other than R.J. Cole, I don't recall any pre-portal transfers who have had any impact at UConn, but maybe I've missed others.

What's amazing, is how few 1-and-dones we've had considering the success we've witnessed the past 2+ decades.

For me, I'm thinking it's Tristen Newton. Ran the team for two years, won two rings. He hacked the position of CBB PG. There was nothing he couldn't handle.

An addition to the list for me is Lasan Kromah. Do we win in 2014 without him? He was an unsung hero.

Ed Nelson would probably be the closest, but I guess it depends on your definition of impact.

The other would potentially be Terry Lerrier, but that was an era I think we all try to block out of our collective UConn memories. :)

I've heard it before and I think people are forgetting a bit but that's a harsh take on Drummond. While nobody was more disappointed in that season based upon expectations of the team and the sheer excitement of the late addition of a guy who was supposed to where the figurative cape we still need to recognize that Drummond played well for a barely 18 year old freshman. I mean he averaged 10 and 7.5 and 2.7 blocks per game. Not sure JC really knew how to use him other than sticking him in the dunker spot and telling him to grab as many oboards as possible. In JCs defense he had a very limited back to the basket game. I would love to see what he could do in Hurley's offense with the Spain actions and Middle ball screen lobs.

Certainly though if you are naming those last two guys on that list Drummond should be named. Unless they have to contribute to a title.

You make a good point. I think his production vs expectations impacted my perception. The list is favorites in order, and not necessarily impact or production. The intent of this thread was more subjective and preference than results.

Cam Spencer and Tristan Newton. Those guys played so well and so well together. When we needed the W one or both of them dug down deep and made one big play after another on a very consistent basis. Both had great all around games filling up the stat sheet. Cam had the wonderful gift of getting a hot hand shooting when everyone else could not make a bucket. Some of their combined play when there was a run were astonishing. I'll never forget them. One brash and in your face; the other an assassin. The ever crafty Cam and Tristan taking a beating and pulling himself up off the floor after taking it to the hole for a three point play or a bomb from downtown. Gamers.

So many great choices. Maybe not my favorite, but I think a lot of people do forget how many great moments Bouknight had in a UConn jersey. When he dropped 40 against Creighton, all the insane dunks (my favorite is the one hand alley oop against ECU), and he might have been one of the best I've seen at timing putback dunks. I always love watching this highlight that just showcases what an athlete he is.

Kromah came up big in moments as well. Not up to the caliber of a lot of the others, but certainly worth a mention.
Kromah was a really solid player and a winner. His minutes were up and down all season but he was always ready when his number was called.

After barely playing in the sweet 16, elite 8 and semifinal it was Kromah out on the floor salting the national championship game away for UConn. His offensive rebound and heady kick out to the perimeter to milk clock along with his cut, pump fake drawing the foul and knocking down the two ft's sealed the national championship.

Charlie was also a two year player here as well before becoming a lotto pick.

The Dove. He was absolutely unafraid, unintimidated and unimpressed by any team including the then venerable Georgetown. I remember one play where G'Town was playing extended smothering defense and we couldn't even get a shot off until Dove got the ball. They doubled him with hands right in his face, so he put the ball on the floor and took it immediately to the hoop with both defenders draped all over him. He didn't score but he was fouled and that was the last time they tried that. He knew how to break through.
Loved his nickname too "The Gaza Stripper."

Wow! what a great exercise. Recency bias leads me to DC, Castle and Cam. However, I am going with Nadav!!!
