So my friend and I decided to duck out of work early and play golf today, and we headed over to the William J. course, one of the city courses in Boston.
We decided to walk, and we were paired up with a kid around our age (also walking) and an older gentleman in a cart. We introduced ourselves and teed off. The older guy mostly kept to himself and was playing from the reds (we were at the blues) so we didn't talk much.
Around the 3rd hole, though, I realized he was wearing a UConn hat and a UConn shirt, so I said something like "Big Uconn fan huh? I went to school there." and he says "You went to UConn? You know Karl Hobbs?" and I said sure, and he said "That's my son!" and he showed me the ring he was wearing, it was a 1996 Sweet 16 ring.
So we talked for a while about UConn and Karl, and his move to Rutgers (the guy said he was "shocked" when Karl told him he was making the move).
Real sweet guy. And he had to be about 90 years old, and he's still a hell of a golfer.
