He is my official new favorite Husky. We can talk about recruits for the future all we want. I think Lubin is the future and the present at 6-8 260. To have an athletic Charles Oakley as our PF for the next 4 years--we will be fine.

Our team is going to be great next year--answers everywhere with more power upfront. Yes we won the championship last year and we deserved it but we also couldve lost to St Joseph in game !! I think this team will show more balance--it wont have a Napier and Boat just a boat but a Lubin and improved Facey Hamilton Purvis Cassell Brimah with 20-25 more pds Nolan bigger faster stronger better STACKED and look 4 ward to the rock!!!

Just curious as to what you're basing this on? Has anyone here actually seen him play? He looks like a strong 260 from a few pics I've seen, but I don't know how we can have any expectations based on his 20 seconds of youtube highlights.

Didn't you start this exact same thread 2/3 weeks ago? As the previous post says, what exactly are you basing any of your viewpoints on?

My take, as Champions we are in a prove it first situation. Relying on hope and wishful projections is no longer necessary for freshman (including Hamilton).

For me; as for Lubin and also Hamilton, well, show me what you got. In fact all they need to do is just help Boat get another.

Its great to be on top!

Seriously. And it's just ridiculous to try to predict how good this kid will be when we haven't even seen him go up against so much as a chair. Or an ottoman.

Unless he grew over the summer he's only 6'6"

Scout has him at 6-7, 195; Rivals at 6-6, 250; ESPN at 6-8, 210; and 247 at 6-7, 220. How is there this much of a discrepancy on something so easily verified?

I think the excitement stems from two things- finally getting a four-year player that isn't a beanpole when they first step on campus and being compared (in terms of size and strength) to Jeff Adrien, the warrioriest of all warriors to play at UConn.

Was Adrien warriorer than Freeman? Compare/contrast to Hayward.

Of all those I would say Rivals is probably the closest.

I don't know much about Hayward, and I didn't see much of Freeman's career at UConn aside from replays I've seen of 1998 and 1999 games. I may be biased because Adrien was a player when I was at UConn, but when you are close to averaging a double-double throughout your sophomore, junior and senior seasons, that's pretty warrior-y.

The comps between Lubin and our other undersized PFs needs to stop. Lubin may turn out to be just like them, but Freeman, Hayward, and Adrien were all nationally known top 80ish (at minimum) players. Adrien and Freeman were top 30 players. We know next to nothing about Lubin except for random bits here and there and then his fan club and friends who showed up for 10 minutes to tell us how amazing he is. As of right now the only thing Lubin has in common with those guys is similar measurements.

We have tendency to have wildly ridiculous expectations for players. Then when they don't live up to them, we kill them on the boards. Ajou, Majok, even rusty AJ were all killed as busts (initially) based on posters here having completely unrealistic expectations. I still remember someone saying they expecting Ater to be a 20 and 10 guy right away. Given we've NEVER had that player (at least in my lifetime) it seems just a tad (sarcasm) far-fetched.

Let's just let the kid arrive and play before we start anointing him as the "future" of UConn.

Teams will be unable to guard Lubin straight up, so we'll see more box and ones. Which is good because there is no way that one guy will be able to cover Boat, Purvis, Hamilton and Brimah all by himself.

Envision a guy who could hold off Elton Brand with one hand and get the rebound with the other. Owned the space he occupied.

Every message board is overly optimistic. Which is OK. Every 5 star and many 4 stars are going to come in and be major contributors from day one. Most do not.
Many believe their teams can make the sweet 16 or better, probably forty or 50 or more teams, 2/3 will not. What do you call these people. FANS!

I'm a definite Rock supporter, obviously, but just where in the hell is "athletic Charles Oakley" coming from?
