Mack said Rutgers was just trying to be physical with Lamb.
“He’s not really like a physical guy. He’s really nonchalant,” Mack said. “He doesn’t like it when someone bumps him or whatever, so we just bumped him a little bit and threw him off. “

---
Hopefully JC read these quotes as well...and will do everything he can to help infuse some toughness into Jeremy...hitting the weight room will help...but a lot can be achieved with good old fashioned JC/Kemba/Ricky Moore etc etc mental toughness...heck- Rip was scrawny and skinny and he never let people bully him out of what he did on the court...he still ran his routes (off picks) and got his shots off...and executed

Check out Borges' blog. JC addressed it with the media today.

"Jeremy Lamb is finding that being a preseason first team All-American leads to special attention by opponents. Lamb seems to be getting grabbed and bumped a lot during games to keep him from getting the ball, but Jim Calhoun says he must adjust to it,“because I can guarantee the officials aren’t going to adjust to us.”"

to be honest, the kid is averaging 18 a game and would be a first team all american if they voted today... you're not saying anything everyone on this blog doesn't already know when you say he should hit the weights and other teams are going to look to be physical with him..

here is what didn't happen at the rac. jlamb was getting hugged off all pics and running back and forth. ruty d was doing a great job. when that happens, one of your big guys sacks up and sets a nasty pick on a ruty guy. drop that mf if you have to make a point. that didn't happen so ruty never left jlamb for a sec. if jlamb went to the bathroom during the middle of the 1st half, the ruty player could have told u 1 or 2. we need to recongize things in game flow that are bball iq things, we didn't the other day becuase we got caught up in the upset atmosphere.

I like it. I like it a lot.

This will fire Lamb up. I'd have this put on his locker, his iPhone, his screensaver, his dorm room. Everywhere.

Nothing like another guy implying that you're soft to make you want to tear his face off and piss in his sinus cavity.

The fouls slowed up Lamb, not Rutgers.
I didn't get to see the game (listened on the radio) but I've seen many a player get frustrated by physical defense and then react by committing bad fouls. It's entirely possible RU got in his head in that way -- JL may show little emotion but he's not a robot.

With about 10 minutes to go in that game and UConn up by 3-4 points, Nappier threw an alley oop to Drummond. Andre was blatently held by a Rutgers player and the ball went out of bounds with possesion to Rutgers.
Calhoun was complaining to the refs w/o getting T'd up. The announcers mentioned it. But, no call. Had Andre converted with a 5-6 point lead things might have ended differently.
This team needs to adjust to BE play. I can understand Drummond, Daniels & Boatright getting shaken up by BE play, but nor bazz, or Lamb.

Let's put it this way, Lamb had a bad game and I'm not sure he was ever all in. I'm going to call it an aberration.

he played 24 minutes and he's averaging 36.... he also went 0-4 from 3 when he's been shooting above 40% all year.... he had a game where he was never really able to get into the flow because of fouls and missed some shots he'd normally make... it wasn't necessarily rutgers d that hurt him- it was bad choices on some of his fouls and having to leave the game for long stretches.

he'll be fine... he certainly doesn't care if miles mack or anyone else thinks he's soft- he's not ever gonna be jeff adrien and I think he's ok with that... his bank account certainly won't be soft after this year...

The Lamb fouls were mostly ticky-tack. If anyone got in his head it was the officials.

eh, if there is anything for Lamb to take away from that game its that he can't give away fouls when you're the best player on the floor. Usually I would agree that there should be no easy baskets but I'd rather not see him being the one committing those fouls that he gave away in the 1st half, let a role player commit those.

I agree in part. Lamb was never able to get into the game physically and mentally, but I think there is something to him and the team not adjusting to the physical play. He needs to a better job of losing his man and rubbing them off screens more aggressively. I also think the team needs to get him the ball differently. He doesn't have a great first step, so just having him run through underneath screens where he catches the ball heading away from the basket doesn't really suit his strengths all that much.

I've said this before, he's best when catching the ball at an angle or a back-cut with his momentum heading toward the basket. Even if he decides not to take it to the paint, his defender is caught on his heals and Lamb should be able to stop and knock down open Js that way, if he's not taking it to the basket. I just don't think they're running the right stuff for the personnel they have. I hope either they make this adjustment or that I'm wrong and they learn to execute what they're running better.

Now that the defenders are bigger and stronger, what worked before seems not to be working quite as easily...unless there is some other explanation as to why they can't seem to get out of their own way in the half-court.

With that said, there is probably something to Lamb and his teammates needed to adjust to the physical play their throwing at Jeremy. I think Jeremy might need to take a page out of Bazz's theater play book and draw the attention to the refs the excessive contact he's getting and as someone pointed out, flattening one of the defenders even if it means picking up a foul to send a message. Even if they draw a call on one of them, there's something about the lasting memory of getting your bell rung that can go a long way during a 40 minute game. Considering that we have a few thumpers on our team, I don't recall many bone crushing screens lately.
