When did it become a possibility that UVa and VaTech could be divorced in expansion talks? Last year, they couldn't go anywhere unless they were both going.

Do you have a link demonstrating that a year ago one couldn't leave without bringing the other along? When did it become a possibility that UVa and VaTech could be divorced in expansion talks? Last year, they couldn't go anywhere unless they were both going.

The issue there was that the ACC's plan (and they were bold enough to publicly state this at that time) was that crippling the BE, sending the conference to mid-major status, would be an added benefit to the ACC with the move. As that expansion had VT remaining in the BE, the gobernor stepped in, not allowing UVA to vote in favor of something that would hurt VT. As UVA (who became a deciding vote as both Duke and UNC were firmly against the raid) could only vote in favor of expansion if VT was included, the schools voted on changed from Miami, Cuse & BC to Miami & VT (BC was added later). If VT's home is still major after UVA moves, UVA can go somewhere else without government intervention. Not specifically, no. But I remember that this was a huge part of the discussion for our stakes in getting into the ACC.
