on the tos, they were not very happy.. most said he is over rated, but what else are they going to say

A lot of sour grapes over there on rivals about him leaving. Of course he is one of a number of players who have left lately

.-.
Will they pray every night before bed that he contracts AIDs like this forum with AO?

I was going to say, let's not act like certain people on this board haven't reacted poorly to players leaving the program.

A friend mentioned that Purvis was originally denied admittance into Uconn academically.
Anyone know whether that is true of not?

I thought he originally chose NC St over Uconn in a tough decision, but didn't read that he didn't get into Uconn.

.-.
here's an article from an NC publication with more quotes from Purvis on why he left, I hadn't seen this one posted anywhere

"I really trust coach Ollie," Purvis said. "He's a player's coach. He's the type of guy whose office is always open and you can talk to him."

Thanks, good article. I figured his reason for leaving was Gottfried, and this article confirmed it.

In the comments section of the article, someone wrote it is "essentially a lateral move between programs". That's good stuff right there.
Only in their dreams!!!! It's a huge upgrade for him!!!

With all the talk about how Purvis didn't "fit" in the NC State system - what was it about his game that didn't fit? Or is that just a mask for saying he didn't get along with the coach?

He basically was stuck behind a better player.

He basically was stuck behind a better player in the same class. He made a good decision for himself and for us.

It would be a lateral move - if Eastern Connecticut and EO Smith were better programs and we were third fiddle in Tolland County.

He couldn't handle the academic side of NC State so he came to UConn

Hey, never let pesky little things like "truth" get in the way of good stories.....clearly that comment came from a fiction writer.

NCSU is a "academic institution" with mediocre athletics. They are badly overshadowed by UNC and Duke in every way. There is literally no reason to play at NCSU in any sport.

Most of it was spelled out in the article, except the part about him not being able to play point because they already have Tyler Lewis and Cat barber coming in. They don't use ball screens to free up their guards, UConn's offense is built off the high ball screen. He felt Gottfried didn't allow freedom for other players besides the PG, as we saw last year KO allows a ton of freedom like an NBA style approach. Him being stuck behind a better player isn't really accurate, with the way their team is constructed now, he would start at SG.

Actually, TJ Warren is a 6'8" forward, RP is a 6'3" combo guard. TJ did get more minutes but it was because Gottfried went to a bigger lineup, they don't play the same position. Now, NC State does have a highly rated guard coming in but I think this transfer is much more about the poor relationship between RP and his prior coach and the better potential relationship with Coach Ollie. Gottfried is a slick recruiter but not the type who will help a kid get on the right track whe. He has had a slow start.

I didn't like how Calhoun built us into a "Big East power".

How about a national power?

Well, that's debatable. There are five or so other schools that have won 3 titles.

Plus, "national power" implies that we are a power in the whole nation, and to my knowledge, we've never beaten anyone from Alaska or Montana. And those are two of our four largest states.

Thought we beat Alaska Anchorage at the beginning of the "Dream Season" at the Alaska shootout!
