Linear Rotations:
Cumulative Unique Rotations Sorted By Plus/Minus.
  • For more analytics, see CBB Analytics free tier for access to UConn’s rotations analytics (including advanced ones normally available only on an entire game basis).
  • Alternatively, see Hoop Explorer.
&1 More and better quality Mix-and-Match at a faster PACE is part of Geno and CD’s solution to the riddle of a deep quality roster.
  • One enables the other (and vice versa) and results in faster and better learning and improvement (akin to machine learning) and flatter minutes to achieve program and individual goals;
  • And the more dominant mix-match play is, the more time can be carved out of games for training the lower bench players.

Rotation Stint Index Series.
  • Per Bonedog’s Inquiry.
  • The Index (Per 40 Plus/ Minus) is based on the most recent games as of a certain date: 3 Quad 1 games, 3 Quad 2 games and 4 Quad 3/4 games.
  • Similar to other Indexes (DJIA, CPI) methodology but different; For example, not all Quad 1 games are the same, not all players are available and Geno and CD have different targeted objectives in the “metamorphosis” period.

The new rotations look like Geno is experimenting with Blanca-Serah and Blanca-Jana lineups. I suspect he’s been wanting to get more minutes for them for a while now. They could be strategic in April.

And also extended minutes to Caroline. And I don’t think it’s simply because it is Senior Day. Caroline moved well.

I’ve rewatched the game, just to watch post play in the context of the possessions when Serah and Jana played.
  • Yes, I’ve read the postgame thread, and I believe comments directed at Serah were harsh.
  • Serah played her possessions well with some non-Boxscore plays. Jana played well in the half-court in the 4th.

I also found the criticism of Serah in the postgame thread to be more ‘projection’ than reality. Geno is preparing the two of them for their tournament roles, not punishing or rewarding them for a good or bad play. It’s way too late in the season for that sort of coaching, if there was ever a time for it. He needs them to be ready for the lineups they’ll find themselves in, and that means playing them in various rotations. This is what we’re seeing now.
