They just played each other this morning. Pretty cool that they got to matchup but it was not a good game. Prince's squad won by 30 and he dropped 15 and Turtle had 2 points on 1-12 shooting, 0-9 from 3. I hope he starts playing better, I consider myself a pretty big homer but Turtle has been bad throughout the entirety of the EYBL for the most part and I think his play is concerning.

His play has been very concerning... his team is the bottom feeder for the circuit....

Turtle is now 34 of 109 in field goals 31%, 22 of 76 from three 29%. This is just plain horrible. He takes way too many three point shots! I expect to see his ranking really start to drop. He has a lot of work to do to improve his shooting/scoring.

Yikes.

Silver lining: Adams shouldn't be concerned about playing time if Jackson is his competition at the position!

His ranking is definitely going to drop. He has nice size but from his videos his athleticism looks very average, has anyone actually seen him play?

So his performance against the best competition doesn't matter because he tore it up in his HS catholic league? Bad logic but hopefully you are right.

AAU matters. That is where the rankings come from when they play higher competition . The coaches will watch them play in July. Jackson, from his stats, is not playing well and his team is bad. Jackson ave. 2.3 assist and 2.4 TO, with3.7 RB's.

I'm sure playing on the worst team out there isn't helping matters for Turtle.

Well not every player can be a starter. Glad to see Prince doing well. Maybe Jackson will fill a role more like Calhoun, or Samuel. High energy guy who can come off the bench and give the starters a breather....?

The knock on turtle during his high school season was that he was playing in a very weak league. People wanted to see how he performed in AAU after he dominated in high school.

Boatright starts backed up by Samuels. Next Samuels starts until someone takes his job, this kid has years to develop.

Not to sound like a complete scum bag but we offered him before the injury right? Are we obligated to honor that schollie offer?

The day that they offered him was the day that he committed (2/3/14) which was after his injury and the staff was watching him a lot before that offer. One of the reasons Turtle committed was because Ollie and Moore were still recruiting him even when he was injured. Do they have to honor it? No, but it would seem really douchey if they didn't which I highly doubt they will.

Everyone is thinking it. His play is very concerning; especially because of all the guards we are after. High school basketball is a joke AAU matters and his ranking will drop significantly.

I highly doubt "everyone" is thinking it. I'm sure chicken littles are though.
Whatever you need to tell yourself man. I've seen him play twice, he looks completely over his head. I guess that makes me a chicken little. Have you seen him in person? I'll wait....

Lots of possible reasons for bad play lately. Maybe he's hurt, maybe his dog died, maybe he and his AAU teammates arent getting along, or maybe he really isn't that good yet. Either way, we were all concerned about the Samuel offer, and now many of us (me included) think he will likely be our next great 4 year player, and a stud PG.

Don't forget, Turtle hasnt really been coached yet. He will get better next season, just by the normal HS progression, and better still as a college player under the tutelage of our staff (many of whom specialize in making PG's great). I'm not worried yet.

Did Samuels perform terrible on the AAU circuit? A lot of these kids out there dropping 20+ a game haven't been coached yet either. There's honestly no excuse to me for this poor play. Players know AAU is when you're suppose to shine the most. If he is on a bad team it's even more of a reason he should be doing better. He's suppose to eventually play PG for us but can't make his teammates better or be a leader to carry the team to be competitive? We are after too many talented guards to have one that's committed playing like this.

I could care less what the rating services think about his game.
As we have seen this year with Omar,
it can take awhile to get your game back, physically and mentally, after an injury. The most important issue is Turtle's attitude and his ability to be good teammate. Coach Ollie would not have offered him if he was deficient in those areas.
Coaches with weak character would look at how a player plays in AAU ball and then pull his scholarship to clear roster space for someone else who is sexier in the ratings (see Coach Howland and his late dismissal of Kendall Williams who went on be an all conference performer at New Mexico....this decision led to Howland's SoCal recruiting stream running dry & ultimately his firing at UCLA). Coach Ollie does not have a weak character!
