So tonight President Herbst will be in Los Angeles to give us West Coast Huskies "an insider's look at the state of the University - and the momentum of #UConnNation." From 6 pm - 8 pm with her presentation scheduled at 6:45 pm at the Ritz-Carlton at L.A. Live.

It's more of a fundraiser but it will be nice to hear what she has to say.

I'll be there. Curious to see how one of these events are run.

Either of you guys have a summary of what was said? this is cool stuff

Just the basics. We are expanding the University and dreams of becoming a top Research University. Nothing earth shattering in regards to what she said. The goal of this visit was to provide networking and opportunities for students who are looking west after graduation. President Herbst noted that she was traveling from San Fransisco to Los Angeles and next to San Diego this week. It was a nice gathering.

She spoke for maybe 10 minutes and took only 3-4 questions. No one asked about conference realignment. Go figure.

I spoke with Josh Newton for a bit and it's amazing how bad leadership was before Susan and him began. There wasn't a contact for us west coasters until a year ago. At least our guys get it and are working to increase the level of outreach and forge stronger connections throughout the country.

I was tempted to ask about Realignment but figured she wouldn't say anything new and give the whole "UConn is committed to the American Conference".

Right, it would have been met with some canned answer including fan support, Husky spirit, excellence on the field and in the classroom, etc.

From what I gathered though, her goal is to get us to a top 10 public school ranking - we currently sit at 19. That would be a major accomplishment.

One thing I didn't like was her constantly comparing UConn to Maryland, Northwestern, UVa, Penn St. Those are all fine institutions and fine aspirations, but it seemed a little too 'me too' for my taste, but that's just me nitpicking.

When UCONN and UVA receive a really B1G invitation, we'll adjust to associating with Northwestern and even with Penn St and Maryland. At least us Huskies will be happy; Wahoos, maybe not as interested. Go B1G, or go B1G!

When she and Josh did one of these things in New Haven a question was asked about AAU and her response indicated that it is a goal UConn is working for, although she also said it's a club and they have to invite you.

FWIW, at the San Francisco event she included Michigan in the list of schools we aspire to be like.

Great turnout and event overall here in SF though. Similar answers to what you guys got in LA.
