Seriously though. Why would UNC wait until now to offer a consensus top 10 player? This makes no sense. Unless they were absolutely certain they were going to land Hurt and are now scrambling to find a replacement because he is backing off.

The best programs can always wait longer. As @superjohn says, he was always a luxury recruit. I know our insiders have said we were in good shape but I have never been confident in this one. Kofi would be another story.
