I read that as of Jan 30th, they are opening bids on the practice facility, with estimates somewhere between $23 million and $25 million. Mention of something like 75,000 sq ft and site work in the late summer or early fall. Refer to the men's site for better and more in depth info.

Just checked on the Men's board and the final cost is more like $25-$28 Mil. The design is still in process - the site prep to start late summer/fall, but design is not completed until late in the year and actual construction is 12-14 months starting next year.
Still nice that the ball is rolling.

totally agree UCMiami. it's over due, but not too late. UCONN still has JC and Geno and it's a great thing to be able to tell recruits who will be here for 4 years that they will get to practice in a state of the art facility probably first semester they are here in 2013 (sept-december). of course i'm sure there will be delays and it probably wont' be ready before summer of 2014, but it's coming and that's great news for the coaching staffs...

So this means the final cost will probably be $40M when all is said and done ... I have never seen a high profile project like this come in anywhere near the initial estimates

  • Wonder if UConn names the court after JC since most likely he'll be retired when the facility is completed. Do they sell the naming rights to the court to a commercial entity for the dollars? Do they come up with an acronym that combines Geno and JC's name?
