WTIC-AM doesn't have the audio of the interview but I hope to God I did not hear him say "the offense isn't changing that much" to JoeD Monday. It sounded something like that or "the plays aren't that much different". Either way he was clearly trying to convey the offense isn't going to be brand-spanking new.

Would also feel better if I could actually hear TJ's voice a few times this spring. PP's doesn't inspire a heckuva lot of hope.

I assume what he means is "if you pick out the path a receiver runs on any given play, or a running back, or a tight end, we had plays where they ran very similar paths." That's undoubtedly true. The problem with the old offense was not that receivers or running backs were sent to stupid locations, like ten yards behind the line of scrimmage or off the field of play; it's that the offensive was not deceptive and it lacked options allowing the offense to exploit what the defense was giving them. Every play has to have one or the other, deception or options, or it is easily defended.

We have the same blocking schemes and running game we had last season we'll have a 3 win season or worse. That simple. If we don't run the ball effectively this season, that young defense is going to be on the field as much or more than that terrific defense from last season.

Essentially, there is not much difference in many offenses. the QB hands off on running plays, the OLine block who's in front of them and the back finds the hole. On Passing plays, 4 or 5 skill positions run a route and the QB finds an open man within the confines of his progression.

What sucked about last year's offense is that Coach Deleone did not use data from one series to shape his play calling for the next. He was not on the field to coach his O-line. He was doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result. While the opposing defense made adjustments to his runs up the middle on 1st and 2nd down, he was a wheel stuck in the Alabama mud without posit traction...

I think it may well be much simpler than all of this. Very likely it uses similar terminology, similar concepts (look for more zone blocking for example, which I think Cincinnati used) and generally similar schemes. We're not going to some other wide open passing attack, but are going with some variant of a "pro-style" attack.
