"Keep it close and hope we have a chance in the 4th." It doesn't instill confidence when your whole gameplan is to just keep it close so you have a chance in the 4th quarter. These coaches are such sissies, playing not to lose.
It's not like those interviews are supposed to glean any real information from them either. Why don't you just say "We need to start off the second half with a good defensive stop and move on from there."
Seriously, to admit to a TV interview that you're basically hoping to keep the game close so you can squeeze out a win in the fourth quarter? That was an unfortunate view into the actual mindset of PP and it makes me feel a bit sick.
It makes me so freaking angry, this is something the Fairfield basketball coach might say going into the half if he was playing one of the UConn title teams. How the hell are the players supposed to play with any confidence when the coaches say things like this and even worse the coaches coach like this. Conservative playcalling and playing not to lose should not be tolerated at this level.
