I have just set up my coaching spreadsheets for the P5 conferences, UConn and RU / AZ opponents. Limiting these comments to the P5 plus UConn grouping of 66 teams:
- oldest coach is Gary Blair (71). The only other coach over 65 is Vivian Stringer at 68. It should be noted that Jim Foster (mid-major conference) is also 68.
- 5 schools have coaches with losing records. I'll only defend Reagen Pebley at TCU (192-204) as having started the program at Utah State and had a lot of lean years at the beginning. Others are Jen Hoover (Wake), (78-84), JR Payne, the new hire at Colorado (101-134), plus Matt Insell at Mississippi (41-54) and Jimmy Dykes at Arkansas (30-32)
- 8 schools have an alumnus at the helm - Arkansas, Florida, Tennessee, Nebraska, Purdue, Arizona, Wake Forest and Oregon State
- There are 6 new coaches - White at Vanderbilt, Amy Williams at Nebraska, Tsipis at Wisconsin, Adia Barnes at Arizona, Payne at Colorado and Brooks at Va Tech.
- The coaches with over 800 wins are: Tara Vanderveer (980), Sylvia Hatchell (975), Vivian Stringer (971), Geno (955) and Muffet McGraw (820). Gary Blair is over 700 wins, and Lisa Bluder, Joe McKeown, Bill Fennely and Wes Moore all have over 600 wins. FWIW, Jim Foster has 868.
- The longest at their current school is Tara Vanderveer who has been there since 1985.
And finally, I'll leave the figuring for the reader, but I thought these 2 Assistant Coaching staffs were unusual -
- at Kentucky - Kyra Elzy, Niya Butts, Lin Dun
- at LSU - Tasha Butts, Mikkie DeMoss, Charlene Thomas-Swinson
