Today was a revelation.

After only practicing against each other, real game tape is starting to show some stuff.

Tyler Phommachanh is the QB going forward.
Mensah is limited going forward. Carter and Newton need touches going forward. Receivers who are dropping passes need to sit. There needs to be repercussions for dropped balls.

On D, loved Evans' explosion off the ball and gap penetration. He is a perfect complement to Jones' pure power.

Everything else sucked.

The young players are CLEARLY more talented. Tyler has the moxie we need .... Evens is going to be an absolute stud. WR's had critical drops but they were open and confidence will take care of many of those issues.

The number one area that needs to be addressed through out the season and in the off season is the secondary. It is beyond awful ..... they look to have a low football IQ and are very slow vs. just about any team we've faced. Hit the transfer portal hard for that area.

We need to get the ball to Brewton on offense. He is a faster version of Newsome.

Can this Freshman QB pull a Casey Cochran and get us three wins down the stretch. I say yes. Very possible.

Bottom line is a glimmer of hope is a hell of a lot better than no hope.

Tyler Phommachanh was 11-26 passing. And that was with a full half against back ups. No one has "earned" the starting job if Spanos is honest with himself.

No one has "earned" the running back position either. No back has shown any wiggle, strength or explosiveness.

Brewton has earned the right to return kicks and punts (if there ever any punts).

AYFKM?

He was 11-26 because his WR's suck.

He put the proper pace and angle on those passes.

Give him some NAIA level WR's and he adds at least 5 catches and 100 yards to his totals.

Not to mention his swing pass which was caught and ran for 55 yards was called back by a penalty which didn't affect the throw or run.

You suck.

Well that’s one way to look at it…. Tyler Phommachanh has a number of dropped balls in the first half against the starters.

Tyler Phommachanh also showed he can maneuver better than Steven Krajewski or Jack Zergiotis. Yes, he’s our starter for sure. Steven Krajewski last week did not make the plays Tyler Phommachanh did today - he made some poor decisions on running the ball.

Bottom line, in a terrible season like this Tyler Phommachanh did enough to earn the job as starter. Steven Krajewski will have his chance again but he’s simply has to play better. Jack Z should never throw another pass in a UConn uniform - maybe a receiver?

Good post. Tyler P looked better than Jack Zergiotis and Steven Krajewski by a mile, and it was not close. We need to keep Tyler P on the field going forward. Steven Krajewski can back him up.

Agreed, but Durante Jones is a keeper.

Let Brewton take over return.
Put Houston in his spot with those looks in the backfield.
A 3 headed monster in Carter, Houston and Mensah…
Let Burns be the short yardage guy …3rd and short…4th &1…

Tyler Phommachanh is the man going forward.
And can we please buy a good safety. Cover 2 the rest of the season goodness

There were at least 5 drops and at least one for a TD. A few broken up on decent coverage. These weren’t 40 yards over a guys head like Zergiotis

Did you actually watch the game???

Receivers dropped at least 4 easy balls.

Tyler Phommachanh showed poise, was dynamic, is a threat to run or pass on any play. Opens up so many more offensive options.

Anyone who argues that he’s not our starter going forward needs their eyes and head examined!

Agreed, but don't totally discount Mensah (understood that we need to get the underclassmen game reps) - if we scheme and block better he can still be a very solid performer; perhaps enough to steal a victory down the road.

Phommachanh ("Puma-chahn") was fun to watch. His play and and Brewton's TD returns (should've had 2 - frickin' holding penalty) give us some hope the rest of the way. Good to see the team playing with some fire 2nd half.

Glad to see Spanos seeing what many of us just saw. Tyler P gave us a flow on offense we have not seen in a long time. Our OL has been bad, and Tyler avoided multiple sacks just due to his athleticism. His throws weren't bad, and he clearly can make long throws. Is he a pure pocket QB with a huge arm? No, but his quickness alone should make this offense better going forward.

We have the type of talent with multiple good RB's and a running QB that we could run the Coastal Carolina offense. I would love to see some pitch option plays with Tyler Phommachanh. We had one last week with Steven Krajewski.

Im gonna be honest, Steven Krajewski showed a lot more against a much better defense imo. I'm not blown away by TD runs against Army's backups.

He short armed many, many throws. Including a wide open TD the receiver had to come back for. I'm hoping we can build am offense around him that limits throws to the boundaries, and emphasizes his legs. But from what it seemed like today, he wants to play like Russell Wilson, not a traditional college scrambler. Yes I know it's one game.

But hopefully more first team reps fix some accuracy issues.
