The big east ain't great. But I've seen some posts, many that I agree with, that claim it can be an advantage to be able to work on some of the things we need to fix while not worrying about playing our starters 35 minutes a game.
We've earned enough quad 1 wins to help us in march.

Can we find some hidden positives about playing these upcoming games?

Some of you want Millender, Furphy and Koroma to get some run. There may be some games where you feel we can do that. Would that add to our strength?

there are a number of games that will definitely test us even though they may not give us the quad #s.

What do you LIKE about playing in this conference? Be specific

I love the rivalries and familiarity with SJU, PC, Nova and Seton Hall (and Georgetown when good). I've enjoyed the competency of Creighton and Marquette to produce good teams that present a challenge. Lastly, I love the Big East tourney, it is by far the best there is.

I want to join a P4 conference for the sake of the program and the university, but I love the Big East. I grew up with it.

The Big East is the best collection of teams that have relevance to our history.

The ACC also has a few, but it is more watered down with a dozen other, mostly southern schools
True. DC, Chicago, NY and Philly are easily among the best bball cities in the world and we have footprints in all of them

Also, St johns, nova, butler and seton hall away will not be a party

Play them ONLY if the 1st 9 plays well in the 1st half and builds a 25 to 30 point lead in the 2nd half. Playing them will give them valuable game time that should improve their reliability late in the season, if they need to be called on to play.

EDIT: Given the 2 slow starts so for in BE play, there may not be such large leads in the 2nd halves if this trend continues.

Living in Philly, playing in the Big East allows me to see them play in Philly, DC, Newark and MSG with a simple train ride. Suspect there are many other UConn grads along the NY-Washington NEC in the same boat.

Big East provides easier travel for our players, coaches and all the non-revenue sporting teams.

Allows us to concentrate our resources on what we’re good at and have a history of success in, rather than have to divert them to the unwinnable arms race that college football has become.

UConn and Nova have proven beyond and shadow of doubt that a team can be successful in March playing out of the Big East.

This is hard to argue.
Good points

I like those guys you mentioned but Ross and Stewie are finally blossoming and I prefer to get them all the minutes they need to feel the mojo in March and April. They both look like they are about to explode if given the chance. Ross already has for 1 game. Would love to see em each go off for 15 in the same game.

Full disclosure, I am not in the school of looking to find minutes for millender or furphy or Koroma. Not because I dont like them. I think the main point has been to try and give Millender some of Smiths minutes but who in the country has a better backup point guard than Malachi? We are fortunate.
However, I wouldnt be surprised to see Millender a little more than we have. Hurley puts him in games before any of the others and that's not arbitrary.

Also, agree 1000% that Ross and Stewart need as many minutes as they can get. I don't know a UConn fan who now questions their abilities or importance to this team.

Don't get anyone pushing that - we aren't at the point where we want to confuse our rotation, we want to get the guys in it refined into the system. 9 guys is plenty, no point in bringing in 10+.

Function of the position. If Silas, a combo guard, gets 3 fouls, Smith comes in. If ineffectual Silas has one more foul before bench and Millender is a good PG who is less “erratic” than Smith.

Conversely we have AK at the 4 and Stewart can play thar depending on the other 4 but Koroma is more break glass. AK plays 30+ min anyway and is rately in foul trouble.

With Braylon starting we have 3 guards but if Braylon sits Ross might come in shifting to 2 guards and a better defender.

Furphy is the 4th guard so little need and gets 1-3 minutes at the end.

Big fish small pond, lately, not always
Since we joined the New Big East it has been this way. Don’t confuse this bunch of mediocre teams with the Original Big East. We absolutely don’t fit. It is amazing that people think this group bears any resemblance to the original. At one point in the original there were 4 teams in the elite 8, 3 in the final 4. And none were lucky to be there.

You're right, but I expected more out of Nova, Creighton and Marquette.

St John's was never going anywhere far despite the addition of Pitino

You would think that Georgetown with all its history and basketball alumni would make something happen, but they've become like every other BE team.

You don't have to go that far back to days where we'd have two members in the F4.
