As popularity has increased for the WNBA so has the length of seasons. As the length of seasons expands, first season records are broken, eventually career records will as well. Breaking records in turn increases the popularity further and a positive feedback loop is created, at least for a while. Over the next ten years we are likely to see more records broken and longer seasons.

Taurasi’s record for points might hold because of her impressive longevity in the sport, but I would not bet on it. All other stats … rebounds, assists, blocks, etc … will be broken over the next ten years. Some will be broken multiple times. Truly a golden era for the sport is upon us.

Records are made to be broken. I am okay with that. Just as long as the W continues to grow in popularity is great news for us fans and I am sure players. More games. More fans. More money for the players.

I see the scoring record being broken in the next 10 years.
