Poll Should Marquette Be Ranked 7th/8th in Polls?

Marquette with a 21 - 3 Record is Ranked 7th in Coaches Poll and 8th in the AP Poll. They are ranked above Maryland (22-2), Stanford (19-4) So Carolina, NC State and other similar P5 Teams.

Their three losses are to Notre Dame (87-63), Miss St (87-82 and Miami (63-55). All Ranked teams. They are First in the Big East with a 12-0 record. They have not beaten any teams currently ranked in the Top 25. Charlie Creme has them as a #2 Seed. The committee has them as the 9th ranked team in their preliminary bracket.

Marquette just suffered a bad loss to St. Johns, a .500 team. This could shake up the seedings.

All their 4 losses are not that bad losses, but they should be.... #9. Stanford at #7 and NcState at #8. If NcState can beat Notre Dame, you can argue they should pass Notre Dame, Stanford, and even Mississippi State. But Marquette is probably #9 at this point win or lose by NcState.

Marquette was a #3 seed (#9 overall) in the reveal. NC State was the last #2 seed.

BTW, this Poll was posted before Marquette lost to St Johns. I did expect Marquette to go undefeated during the rest of the Regular Season. I thought if they did lose, it would be to DePaul in the Big East Tournament.

The St Johns loss should take them off the #2 Seed line, but suspect they'll end up as a #3 Seed. With Conference Post Season Tournaments approaching, all teams with few exceptions will end up with one or more losses before the Selection Show. If Marquette wins the Big East and goes undefeated who knows, perhaps they keep their two seed. If they do, send them to Albany please. Like that match up better then a Miss St match up.

The committee's naming of NC State as the last 2 seed came after their losses to UNC and FSU. So the road win at Syracuse has only bolstered their inside position on the spot.

But if they lose to UNC (again), Wake or Miami, that's another story.

I think if either Iowa or Maryland wins this game and then wins out, they become the likely last 2 seed.
But if Oregon State can beat Oregon on Monday, I like their chances as well.
