First two buckets by each team from less than a foot.
Then both missed threes.
It's early, But 5 minutes in, we're getting killed on the boards, 7 to 3 and we have NO offensive boards.
10 minute mark, we at least have a couple offensive boards, but we're still in a 5 rebound hole. We do have 6 Assists to their 2 though.
5:30 -- 6 seconds on the shot clock. Spencer gets the ball way out on the perimeter, with the shot clock around 5. Looks up and sees both of their bigs on the perimeter. Throws the high pass to a WIDE open Johnson. Beautiful play.
3:20 -- 3 board advantage now. 10 dimes to their 3, and leading in steals 5-2 and blocks 3-1 as well. Most important, 11 points up.
Halftime stats all favor the good guys. 39 to 34 FG%, 10-6 O-boards 15-11 D-boards, 12 Assists on 14 buckets, six steals to their two. 3 TOs to their 6.
4 minutes into the 2nd half, the lead is up to 21. We have 51 points, and Clingan, with 12 is the only player with double digit points.
Getting a bit careless for a few minutes around the 12 minute mark in the 2nd half.
Lead back over 20 with 9 minutes left.
Wonder if Tristan can get 4 boards and 3 dimes in the last 9 minutes? Nah, he ended 3 boards and 2 dimes shy of triple double #4. I still say he's going to get it before the year is over.
Marquette only shot 0.1% better on FG than we did on THREES. Our rounded shooting % numbers were 46-37-86 to Marquette's 37-22-75.
After our hideously slow start on both boards, we won the battle of the boards big on both ends. O-boards it was 18-10 and D-boards 27-17. Actually, there was not a single column in the box score that UConn didn't win. Dimes, 24-9. Steals, 11-6.
For my money, this was Clingan's best game as a Husky. He shot 7 of 8 from the field and 3 of 4 from the line. 10 boards, 17 points, a pair of assists and a pair of steals. and just for good measure he threw in a block.
We had 5 players shoot 50% or better. That other team had one.
Tough to choose a player of the game though. I think it was Tristen, but I could easily make a case for any of Hassan, Cam and Clingan.
